Day of Fun

The Oceanside Senior Center will host "Enjoy A Day of Fun" trip to Atlantic City the last Tuesday of every month. For information, call Morris Marcus at 764-5434.

Atlantic City trip

The Oceanside Jewish Center is sponsoring a trip to Atlantic City on Wednesday, July 21. The group is leaving from the OJC parking lot on Brower Avenue at 9 a.m. and going to the Sands Hotel. The cost is $35 per person and each person will receive $16 back in chips. The group will serve bagels and coffee to take on the bus. Call Sandy at 536-7095 for a reservation.

Bridge tournaments

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned player, the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC (15 Neil Court, Oceanside) has a duplicate bridge game for you. Facilitated by Marie Fiorillo, this on-going game takes place every Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. You will be matched with other participants at your level of experience -- whether you're a beginner or an experienced player looking for some handy tips. Art Lecture: Judy Chicago's "The Dinner Party"

Art lecturer and independent curator Mary Vahey explores the Brooklyn Musuem's unique exhibit that illustrates the symbolic history of women and their achievements in Western Civilization. The program begins at 2 p.m.

Creative Writing Series: Discovering the Writer Within. Barbara Novack, an award-winning writer and member of Molloy College's English Department, invites you to explore and stretch your creativity in this four-part workshop. The program begins at 11 a.m. Registration is required.

Aug. 10

Afternoon book discussion: Lecturer Gene Cohen will lead a review of Jeffrey Eugenide's "Middlesex" beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Aug. 11

Showtime: "Old Age Isn't For Sissies, Book II." Eddie Costello returns with his special brand of humor as he explores the ups and downs of those happy, golden years. Tickets are required for this 2 p.m. program.

Aug. 19

Jews in America: The First 350 Years

Join Al Kaminsky for a fascinating journey back to 1654 when the first 23 Jewish immigrants arrived in America on August 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC. The JCC is located at 15 Neil Court in Oceanside.

Learn about the wave, and then the flood of immigrants that followed and how they flourished, shaped their country and the world. Al Kaminsky is a teacher and lecturer with an extensive background in Jewish history and the Yiddish language. He has taught at Hofstra University, Teachers College, Kingsborough Community College and has appeared at numerous libraries and community centers.

A Lecture

JCC's gardening club

Get set for planting at The Gardening Club at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 15 Neil Court, Oceanside. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. From 11:30 a.m. noon is lunch (bring your own) and chat followed by programs from noon to 1 p.m. (noon to 1:30 p.m. for Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture Programs).
