Memorial Day Parade. The library invites all Baldwin residents to march with the library in the Memorial Day Parade and Family March on Monday, May 31. Children of all ages are welcome, including tots in strollers or wagons. Registration is encouraged and will be held at the Children's Desk in the library beginning May 1.

Read-to-Me Club. For children age three through kindergarten with a parent or caregiver. Read as many books at home with your child by August 27 and receive a prize and certificate. Registration is necessary and will begin June 7.

Read, White & Blue. Summer reading program for boys and girls in grades 1 to 6 and another club for those in grades 7 to 12. This year's theme is "New York is Read, White & Blue." Kids will read books at home and report on the books to earn prizes. Registration begins June 7. For five weeks beginning on July 5, take-home craft kits will be available to kids in grades 1 to 6 when reporting on a book. Surprise gift for kids in grades 7 to 12 at registration. An invitation to an awards ceremony and magic show will be given to those who complete the club's reading requirements.

Nassau Chapter No. 14 will be holding a new member orientation on Tuesday, June 1 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Bellmore Presbyterian Church on the corner of Bellmore Avenue and Martin Avenue. Current Events Series. At the Freeport Memorial Library, 144 W. Community Health Forum. The Nassau County Departments of Health, Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol will conduct a Community Health Forum for all Town of Hempstead residents at the Freeport Recreation Center, 130 E. Ezra Center. Do you have a child who needs to build their social skills? Groups are available right in your neighborhood at the Ezra Center for People With Disabilities located at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC. This winter the Ezra Center is offering a number of programs for children (with ADHD; ADD; Aspergers; PDD; Autism; Learning Disabilities; and, Speech & Language Delays). Programs include arts and crafts, aquatics, and lessons on building physical and social skills. An interview is required for proper placement. Athletes needed. The Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC is forming its JCC Maccabi Team for the 2004 JCC Maccabi Games being held in Boston from August 15-20. The JCC Maccabi games are an Olympic-style event for athletes of Jewish Heritage. Delegations come from Israel, Canada, Poland, Mexico, and from all over the United States. Athletes enjoy high level competition as well as cultural and social events. The JCC is holding tryouts for roller hockey and boys basketball.Athletes must turn 13 by Aug. 1 and cannot turn 17 before Aug. 1. Hockey tryouts will be held Thursday, Feb. 12 & 19; Basketball tryouts take place Monday, Feb. 9 & 16.
