Memorial parade
. The East Meadow United Veterans Council is holding its annual Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 31. It will start at 10 a.m. inside the East Meadow High School parking lot, and make its way to Veterans Memorial Park.

NINEmeeting. The East Meadow-based National Infertility Network Exchange is holding its monthly educational meeting Tuesday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting, held at the Samuel Field YM-YWHA, 58-20 Little Neck Parkway in Queens, will focus on success stories. Health fair. State Sen. Kemp Hannon's Family Health and Safety Fair is set for Saturday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Island Trees Middle School on Wantagh Avenue in Levittown. Several exhibits and presentations will highlight health and safety issues in a fun, interactive way.

Temple brunch. The East Meadow Jewish Center, a conservative synagogue with an active social calendar and Hebrew school, invites the public to a new member brunch on Sunday, June 6, at 10 a.m.The East Meadow Jewish Center is at 1400 Prospect Ave. For reservations or more information, call (516) 483-4205.

Pride Day. East Meadow Community Pride Day is set for Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will take place inside Speno Park on East Meadow Avenue, just north of North Jerusalem. Rides, food and drinks all free. Music and entertainment. This year's event is dedicated toSalNapolitano.

Garage sale. Are you spring cleaning? Do you have a household or yard item that you don't know what to do with?Give it to the East Meadow Knights of Columbus, which is looking for goods to sell for its garage sale on Saturday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held in the St. Raphael's parking lot, 600 Newbridge Road. Courts of honor. Boy Scout Adam Rosenblatt is attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. His court of honor is set for Wednesday, June 9, at the East Meadow Fire Department headquarters, 197 East Meadow Ave. Boy Scout James C. Farrell is also attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. His court of honor is set for Saturday, June 12, at 4 p.m. in St. Raphael's Auditorium, 600 Newbridge Road.

Day at the races. The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce is to hold its second annual day at the races Sunday, June 13, at Belmont Park from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be nine races. The first starts at 1 p.m. Each guest will receive reserved parking, clubhouse admission, a handicapping seminar, private betting windows and a deluxe barbecue lunch. Special door prizes and raffles. Playtime registration. Christ the King Church, at Fifth Street and DeWolfe Place, is now accepting Playtime School registrations for the September 2004 through June 2005 sessions. Registration for 3-year-olds are onTuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Registration for 4-year-olds are on those same days, but from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Children of all denominations welcome. Library Events



Art show. The artwork of three high school students, including Danica Barboza and Cassandra Jones of East Meadow, will be on display at the library through May.

Movie. "Secondhand Lions," starring actors Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, will be shown Friday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The two star as cantankerous brothers living their retirements out together. Their irresponsible niece leaves her teenage son with them for the summer. The film is one hour, 50 minutes. Rated PG.

Multi-media exhibit. A multi-media exhibit by the Long Island Black Artist Association will be shown at the library through June. Founded in 1968 by a small group of artists to promote and develop black art, the organization participates in local, national and international exhibitions. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, June 5, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Jazz pianist. Internationally known jazz pianist James Weidman will be at the library Saturday, June 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. to play at the opening reception for the Long Island Black Artist Association's June exhibit.

Roosevelt show. Page Hedden Wilson is putting on her one-woman show entitled "Eleanor Roosevelt: An Intimate Portrait,"Friday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Wilson has garnered much praise and many honors for her portrayals of great women in history. Her performances of Roosevelt have sold out houses throughout the Northeast.

Indie film.
"Bread and Tulips,"an independent film, will be shown on Monday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. Rosalba, tired of her boorish husband, takes an impromptu trip to magical Venice, where she falls in love with a poet. Dylan Skolnik, of the Cinema Arts Center and Lake Placid Film Festival, will be the commentator.

Laugh out loud. Laughter is the best medicine, and residents can get a healthy dose of it on Thursday, June 17, at 12:30 p.m. Larry Shoots will lead a group in a joke workshop. Bring your best jokes and be ready to share them and laugh out loud. The leader will greet you with a joke or joke theme, such as "a man walks into a bar,"and you have to jump in with all the "bar" jokes you know. Workshop size is limited. Jewelry appraisal. All that glitters is not gold. But then again, you might be holding a king's ransom in your hands. Residents are encouraged to look through their jewelry and bring it to the library Saturday, June 19, at 12:30 p.m. Jessica Ley, a dealer in antique jewelry, will give a verbal evaluation. Bring no more than two items of jewelry. Ley holds a certificate in fine arts appraisal from New York University.

Mammography. Nassau University Medical Center's mammography mobile van will be at the library on Thursday, June 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The van can accommodate 15 women, by appointment only, throughout the day. Check with the library's public relations department to make sure you meet the requirements and bring the requested documents. Women can register at the public relations department, in person only, starting June 10 at 9 a.m.

Movie. "Under the Tuscan Sun," starring Diane Lane, will be shown Friday, June 25, at 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. A 35-year-old divorcee (Lane) buys an old, dilapidated Tuscan villa, hires local townspeople to do all the repairs, falls in love and finds a wonderful new life. The movie is one hour, 55 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Chess. Every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., the Adult Chess Club meets at the library. All players are welcome to attend and play. Bring a board and chess set to the small conference room.
