Elmont Chamber Night A special event on Wed., March 31 at 6:30 p.m. to raise money for the Children's Field Day on May 22. Join them at King Umberto's on Hempstead Turnpike for dinner door prizes. College night On Thursday evening, April 1, the Guidance Department at H. Frank Carey High School will host College Night for 11th grade college bound students and their parents. The program, called for 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium, will consist of a panel of colleges representing the private college sector, SUNY, New York State University System and CUNY, City University of New York. Elmont challenge The student academic team from Elmont High School will compete in round two of The Long Island Challenge, the popular academic quiz show, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, on News 12. The Spartans take on Kellenburg Memorial.

Coffeehouse North The students in the Valley Stream North High School Tri-M Music Honor Society under faculty advisor Rebecca Hayden are sponsoring a Coffeehouse Music Showcase on Wednesday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in the North High cafetorium. The event will raise funds to purchase sheet music and music CD's for the music library at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center's Ronald McDonald House that serves families who have children in the hospital with life-threatening illnesses. Admission is $5.

Bargains Galore The Auxiliary at Franklin Hospital Medical Center's Thrift Shop have announced they will be holding a "$5-A-Bag" at 138 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream, the special sale will start on Mon., March 15. Board meetings The Budget workshop for the Elmont Board of Education orginally set for March 23 has been cancelled. Instead, the first half of the regular March 16 meeting will set aside time for budget work. Open session begins at 7:30 p.m. The Sewanhaka High School District Board willhold their next regular meeting on Tuesday, March 23 at Sewanhaka High School at 8 p.m. The next meeting of the Covrt Avenue Building Committee will be on Tuesday, March 16 at 3:45 p.m. in the school library.

Tai Chi Join us on Thursday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. for tai chi classes led by Rene Harris and Bob Janowsky of the Chen School of Taiqui. The classes are ongoing and held the second Friday and fourth Thursday of each month. Coffee and cookies served. All Nassau County seniors are welcome to attend.

Budget Time The Franklin Square Public Library will hold its annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election this year on Monday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Library. The public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled for April 12 at 7:30 p.m. and a special registration session will be conducted on April 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. Copies of the proposed budget will be available at the Library in early April, and will be mailed to residents at that time.Voting will take place to elect two Library Trustees. District residents interested in running for election as a Library Trustee must submit a petition signed by at least 25 registered voters of the district.
