Free mammographies
Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford announced that the Nassau University Medical Center Mammography Van will be coming to the Waldbaum's Shopping Plaza in Long Beach March 23, to provide no out-of-pocket cost breast cancer screenings to women 40 years or older.
In order to receive a mammography at this time, it must be one year since the date of the last mammography. Appointments are required and are scheduled on a first-come, first serve basis. To make an appointment, call Legislator Ford's office at 571-6204.
Women of Distinction forum
In celebration of Women's History Month, the Island Park Library and the American Association of University Women will hold their first Island Park Women of Distinction Forum on March 18 at 7 p.m. The forum is open to women who live or work in Island Park and who are a significant positive force in the community.
The forum presenters will be Rosemarie Bovino, the deputy superintendent of the Island Park School District; Sue Farrell, branch manager of Fleet Bank; Maqrie Frangella, program director of the Catholic Charities Senior Community Center and Helen Lorenz, president of the Nassau Chapter of the AAUW.
The women will discuss their individual roads to achievement, the obstacles they overcame, their role models and more. The forum is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Irish show
Talented vocal performer Jimmy Moore celebrates St. Patrick's Day with music from Broadway to "blarney" at the Oceanside Library March 21 at 2 p.m.
Moore will get your Irish eyes smiling with a repertoire of music including such old sing-along Irish-American favorites as "Sweet Rosie O'Grady" and "My Wild Irish Rose," traditional folk songs, a tribute to George M. Cohen and, of course, "Danny Boy."
Tickets will be available at the information desk beginning on March 14 for Oceanside School District residents and March 18 for non-residents, if available. There is a limit of four tickets per person. For more information, call 766-2360.
Hockey tryouts
Oceanside Hockey Club will hold tryouts March 26 and 28 at the Long Beach Arena at West Bay Drive and Magnolia Boulevard in Long Beach.
Participants must live in the Oceanside School district. Tryouts will be held for the "freshman" squad, for kids in fifth through seventh grades; the JV squad for kids in eighth to tenth grades and the varsity squad for kids in ninth grade or higher.
Tryouts are $40. Tryouts for the freshman squad are March 26 from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. and March 28 from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. Tryouts for the JV and varsity squads will be March 26 from 9 to 10:30 p.m. and March 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Buffet Luncheon
The First Methodist Church of Oceanside, located at Atlantic Avenue at Davison Street, will hold an all-you-can-eat buffet luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 30. Cost is $6 per person.

Musical magic at JCC
Experience the musical magic of the Yiddish Theater blended with the best of American pop and Broadway as Hal Jeffrin performs at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 15 Neil Court in Oceanside, on Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m. Jeffrin has shared the stage with Jackie Mason, Rodney Dangerfield and Rita Moreno, and appeared at Carnegie Hall, won leading roles in several Off-Broadway shows and on the popular TV soap opera One Life to Live.
