Small Business Credit Workshop — This presentation is for people who are starting a business. During the early stages, personal credit will be the key to your success. Lisa Itts In Concert — With guitar and vocals, Lisa Itts will present an acoustic performance, a mix of old standards and original, melodic, groove-rock music. Discovered by Peter Yarrow of “Peter, Paul and Mary,” Lisa Itts has worked with producer Dennis King of Motley Crue and Chic fame and toured the tri-state area at such venues as the Bitter End in Manhattan. How To Pay Less in Taxes — This seminar will provide over 150 tax-saving strategies to help reduce one’s federal and state taxes. Topics will include education, retirement, home ownership, charitable, medical, investment, employee deductions, and miscellaneous categories. Finding Meaning in the Second Half Of Life — “I  have spent my life stringing and unstringing my instrument, and I have yet to play the song I was meant to sing.” This quotation by R. Tagore captures the sense of poignancy that many individuals feel as they enter the second half of their life. If we take the time to listen to our hearts, we may realize that we have spent a large portion of our years postponing the activities that we always wanted to do and now there is an uncomfortable, growing sense that time may be running out. FITNESS WITH CATHY — Senior wellness trainer, Cathy Marciano, challenges seniors in a low-impact aerobic program for cardio-vascular conditioning and strength training. Bring 1 - 3 lb. weights. Cathy’s next workout sessions will be on Monday, Jan. 28, at 12:30 p.m. at the Magnolia Senior Center.
STRENGTH TRAINING — Long Beach seniors are invited to join a special class designed to strengthen various muscle groups. Abdominal exercises are included in this stimulating workout. Bring 1 - 3 lb. weights and a mat. The next strength Training sessions will be on Monday, Jan. 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the Magnolia Senior Center.
SEATED TAI CHI — Instructor Judith Weitz invites Long Beach seniors to join her new program where students will tone and stretch all their muscles without putting stress on the knees, feet, thighs or back. Seated Tai Chi, which is wonderful form of exercise for everyone, is scheduled on Monday, Jan. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Magnolia Senior Center.
DANCE WORKSHOPS — On Tuesday, Jan. 22, Latin Dancing will begin at 10 a.m. and Line Dancing will begin at 11 a.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Latin Dancing will start at 10 a.m. and Square Dancing will start at 11 a.m.. Nick Marcus and Pearl Bacal will be the instructors.
SOCIAL DANCE — Look wonderful and confident while dancing! Seniors can learn or practice ballroom dances such as the Rumba or Lindy in Helen Maddaloni’s Social Dance program. Class sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays, Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. 
BEGINNER’S SCULPTURE — Join us on Tuesday afternoons at 1 p.m. for a wonderful winter activity! Seniors can learn the basics of sculpting and mold making from talented and patient instructor, Veronica Smith. Beginner’s Sculpture allows you to work on a project of your choice, at your own level and pace, with individual instruction.You can start by making a sculpture of your pet and eventually a sculpture of a grandchild.
MAGNOLIA DRAMA CLUB — Calling all kids at heart! Seniors are invited to play make-believe on Thursday mornings! Learn a favorite part, anything from Shakespeare to Simon, or just join the Magnolia Drama Club to learn improv! (Memorization of lines is not required!) The club meets, under the guidance of director Ken Schwartzman, on Thursdays at 11 a.m.
BALLROOM DANCE LUNCHEON — Couples, who wish to join other Long Beach guests at a Ballroom Dance Luncheon for $15 per person on Friday, January 18, should call Linda at (516) 431-3510. The affair will be at the Manor East Catering Hall in Massapequa from noon to 3:30 p.m. DJ Nick Marcus will provide the music and a hot lunch buffet will be included.
MOVEMENT TO MUSIC — Movement to Music is an enjoyable way to exercise and feel better. This action-oriented program, led by instructor Lisa Wisel, is suitable for all seniors. Attend alone or bring a friend to join this wonderful family of seniors who dance/walk, sing/listen or love to watch the fun. Class sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m.
LEARN TO MEDITATE — Long Beach seniors can Learn to Meditate with instructor Lisa Wisel at the Magnolia Senior Center located at 650 Magnolia Blvd. in Long Beach. This group is designed to foster a deep sense of peace and relaxation by focusing on the breath. Using soothing music and guided imagery, Lisa gently encourages participants to practice putting aside the concerns of daily living and find the place of quiet ease within. LINE DANCING FOR BEGINNERS — Have you ever watched line dancers and wished you could join the fun? Have you tried line dancing and were unable to keep up? Come to the Line Dancing For Beginners clas. P.A.C.E. Members of the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 310 National Blvd. enjoy the benefits of music and dance through the P.A.C.E program. People with Arthritis Can Dance helps those with arthritis enjoy movement and helps alleviate stiffness. Lisa Wisel, MS, ADTR, CLM, a registered Dance/Movement therapist, leads the class.Every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Volunteer! — Long Beach Medical Center volunteers provide many necessary services to patients, visitors and staff.  Their interaction can brighten the day of a nursing home resident, help provide information to a patient’s family, and help the staff function with greater efficiency. Volunteer opportunities are varied and every effort will be made to match an individual’s interests and skills to a specific area of need.If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please call the LBMC Volunteer Department at 897-1180.
LBMC’s Women’s Empowerment Group can help victims take bac­k control of their lives. Facilitated by a certified social worker, the group discussions include a variety of topics such as parenting skills, relationship issues and domestic violence. The group is bilingual. ADD workshop — Christine Ramos, an author, nurse, certified childbirth educator, breastfeeding counselor and doula, will conduct a workshop entitled “Highly Sensitive, ADD, Empathic, or Indigo?” Determining which describes your child, and tips on guiding him or her.  The program will be held at The Integrative
Nightwatch — The Nightwatch Hotline in Long Beach offers crisis counseling and referral to callers from all over the area, free of charge. Hotline hours are Sunday-Thursday from 6-11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Call 889-2332.
Diabetes Club meets the third Monday each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium at LBMC. Topics include nutritional management, medications, eye and foot care, exercise and more.

Caring for someone with dementia? You are not alone. The JASA AZORS/HELP Social Adult Day program provides stimulating activities for adults over 60 who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia. Sessions are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at locations in Long Beach and Oceanside. For more info, call 432-0570.
Bereavement Support On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center’s Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. The Long Beach Animal Shelter, at 770 Park Pl., welcomes volunteers for socializing with abandoned pets. Dog-walkers are welcome. There are dozens of cats and dogs eager to brighten your home and life. The shelter is open for extended adoption hours from 5 to 7:30 p.m., in addition to regular 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. hours.
