Mom and tot program. Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church is offering a program for children 12 to 20
months old and their mothers on Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will be
singing, playing, crafts and story time. Out-of-parish families are welcome.

Mammography testing. The van for mammography testing will be at the Merrick Library on Thursday, Jan.
24, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. by appointment only. If you have health
insurance, you must bring a prescription for the mammography from your doctor.

AARP trip. The trip includes deluxe bus transportation, three home-cooked meals daily,
bingo, happy hour, nightly entertainment, hayrides and more. Fee: $545 per

How to grieve your assessment. Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg will present a forum on how to file a
tax grievance with the Assessment Review Commission on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at
7:30 p.m. at Merrick Avenue Middle School. Experts from the Assessment Review
Commission will provide assistance, guidance and information on the process. A
question-and-answer session and an opportunity for one-on-one assistance will

Pancake breakfast. All-you-can-eat breakfast will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 8 a.m. to 11:30
a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1425 Merrick Ave. Fee: $5 adults, $3
children 10 and under.
AARP 55/Alive driving course. People 50 years and older can take this class. Bring library card with you in
order to register on Friday, Jan. 4, at the North Merrick Library. $10 fee. The
class will take place on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Post collections. Merrick American Legion Post 1282 is collecting unserviceable American flags,
used cell phones, used postage stamps, playing cards, pull tabs from cans and
manufacturer store coupons to be given to military families overseas. Place
items in receptacles at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries, Merrick and
North Merrick senior centers, Roslyn Savings Bank on Merrick Avenue and at the
post,160 Merrick Road.
Accepting subscriptions. The Merrick-Bellmore Community Concert Association is accepting subscriptions
for its 2007-08 concert season. Subscriptions are $50 for adults and $25 for
students. The president is Barry Silverman, and Barbara Turchin is membership

Defensive driving. Registration is ongoing for the Saturday, Jan. 19, class from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. There is a $38 fee for the program.
Senior sing-a-long. Senior Sounds Music present an afternoon of musical games, name that tune, name
that singer, name that show and much more on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. No
registration required.
Manga drawing workshop. David Miller, a professional illustrator and graphic designer, will teach teens
how to draw popular manga characters on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Tots night out. Families with children age 18 months to 5 years will have fu, enjoy music and
create a craft on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. Register now.
Crime fighting with DNA. Bob Biancavilla, a former police officer and top homicide and sex crimes
prosecutor, will present a vivid account of how forensic science solves tough
cases on Monday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Jazz concert. The Paul Joseph Quartet will present a tribute to Harlem’s most famous composer, Duke Ellington, on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m.
Film. “The Bourne Ultimatum” will be shown on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Rated PG-13.
