Knights of Pythias The Knights of Pythias Alliance-East Meadow Lodge 774 is seeking new members to join its ranks. This non-sectarian organization serves the community through a number of altruistic endeavors, including food baskets for the needy, donations to charitable organizations, anti-drug programs, and a host of other activities. Sons of Italy The East Meadow local lodge, Edward J. Speno Lodge No. 2568, are calling on Italians and Italian Americans to join the largest men and women organization in America, the Order of Sons of Italy in America. This co-ed local lodge meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Jewish school of culture center, 574 East Meadow Ave. in East Meadow. Grand opening of the Young Adult Room on Sunday, Oct. 5 beginning at 1:30 p.m. beginning with the dedication of the room to the Library's former Director, John Franzen. Programs, music, prizes, games and refreshments will follow. See the room, its resources, and all it offers to our youth. At 2:30 p.m., Paul Merklin and Great Big Faces will appear and pick people from the audience while drawing great big portraits of them. Anime artists Kelly Gordon and Jen Scrimenti will be leading a workshop on Creating Your Own Anime Character at 3:30 p.m. Create a character and it will be printed on your own t-shirt. Bring your own tee shirt and a $10 material fee to the program.

Senior Congress at St. Raphael Church, 600 Newbridge Road, East Meadow, on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first annual Senior Congress offers workshops and information stations on topics including: Medicare Part D, safety in the home, reverse mortgages, elder law, senior housing and scam prevention. A continental breakfast will be available at 9 a.m. and lunch will be served. It is not necessary to be a senior to attend. Advance registration is required. Culinary Delights sponsored by the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce will be held on Monday, Oct. 6 at the Mirage Nightclub in Westbury. The sixth annual Culinary Delights is a fundraiser to benefit the Nassau University Medical Center Pediatric Department, the Fight Against Autism and the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow's Kamp Kiwanis. Advanced ticket purchases necessary. This event will spotlight local restaurants, bakeries, confectioners, wine and beer. It will offer guests an opportunity to sample their fine cuisines and drinks. In Addition, there will be a Chinese Auction, half- price drinks/cash bar and music will be presented at this event for your enjoyment. Wounded Warrior Fundraiser sponsored by the Nassau County Firefighters Wounded Warriors Project on Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Savannah Lounge in East Meadow. Join the firefighters to raise money for our wounded troops. Over 30,000 troops have been wounded in recent conflicts. Every December, the NCFFWWP convoy's a lone of fire department vehicles to personally deliver the necessities of the wounded warriors. Join the firefighters for food, cash bar, a 50/50 raffle and prizes. All proceeds benefit the troops and their families.

Blood drive on Friday, Oct. 10 hosted by the East Meadow Post Office in conjunction with Long Island Blood Services. The mobile blood vehicle will be stationed in front of the East Meadow Post office from noon to 5:30 p.m. Postmaster Charles Knowles urges the community to give the gift of life by either stopping by the post office that day or by scheduling an appointment by calling the post office at 794-5246. Russian Concert The children's choir from the Holy Trinity Cloister of the Orenburg Region, Russia will be performing Russian folk music on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 369 Green Avenue, East Meadow. A local boy scout is asking for donations to help complete his eagle scout project to build a gazebo at Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve, 1600 Merrick Road, Merrick.
