Widow/ers event
On Sunday, Feb. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. the Long Island-NYC Metro Area Young Widow/ers will hold a lunch and chocolate tasting event. The cost is $10 cash plus a minimum $10 food or beverage order. Chase away the pre-Valentine's Day blues by sampling special chocolates and mingling with other young widows and widowers. Rose fund raiser

Malverne musical
Malverne High School will be presenting its 2011 production of “Seussical the Musical” on March 9, 11 and 12. Tickets can be purchased through Mr. Johnson on Mondays, starting Jan. 24, from 3:45 to 6 p.m. at the Howard T. Herber Middle School or by calling (516) 887-6400 ext. 4121. Tickets cost $9 in advance and $10 at the door. The performance on March 9 begins at 6 p.m. and is free for senior citizens. Matinee movie
The Eda Millard Chavurah Program, Jewush Matinee Film Chavurah will present a screening of the film "Norma Rae" on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at the JCC. Oscar winner Sally Fields portrays the true story of a woman who organized a union at her factory in the South. She faces opposition from the bosses, from family members and from town leaders. While not exactly a Jewish film, her struggle parallels the experience of our ancestors in the early decades of the 20th century. Discussion with Rabbi Art Vernon will follow the film. Birds of prey
Join the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons when they bring birds of prey to the library on Tuesday. Feb. 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. Children in grades K to 5 will learn about Long Island birds of prey, such as Great Horned owls and Red-tailed Hawks, and see them up close. Siblings ages 3 to 5 are welcome but need to be with an adult.
AARP Tax Prep
Anyone interested in receiving free tax help, particularly those aged 50 and older, should sign up today for AARP Tax Prep workshops running from through April 18. Chinese calligraphy
Children in grades 1 through 5 can discover the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy and create something beautiful to bring home on Friday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 3 p.m. They will explore calligraphy’s rich history and learn the six basic strokes used to form Chinese characters. Then they will create their own scrolls using authentic materials.
AARP Driver Safety
The library is offering an AARP Driver Safety course, open to people aged 50 and older, on Thursday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. AARP members pay $12, non-members pay $14. Both are by check at registration. Bring driver's license and AARP card.
All about email
Learn how to create an email using popular providers such as Yahoo or Hotmail on Wednesday, March 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. You will learn how to send, receive, forward and reply to email. Also find out how to attach files, photos and images to the emails you send and download. There is a $10 fee payable by check at registration.
Traditional Irish Tea
Celebrate St. Patrick's day on March 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with a scrumptious Irish Tea buffet featuring tea sandwiches, Irish scones, strawberries 'n cream and, of course, fresh-brewed tea. K-2 story time
Children in kindergarten through second grade can join the library to read books and sing songs on five Wednesdays in March, beginning March 2.

Children ages 3-and-a-half to 5 years old can enjoy story time, where they will read books, sing songs and get to know one another, on four Thursdays in March, beginning March 3.
St. Patrick's Day craft
On Saturday, March 12, from 2 to 3 p.m., children 3 to 10 years old (with an adult) can participate in a St. Patrick's Day Family Craft program. They will paint a lucky ceramic rabbit and shamrock. Opossum tales
Want to meet a marsupial up close? On Monday, March 21, from 4 to 5 p.m., the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons will present a fascinating one-hour program all about opossums for children ages 3 to 7. Zumba madness
The library is offering a variety of Zumba® classes to fill the demand sweeping the nation. The program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and international music with easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that makes exercise fun. Instructor Jill Ackiron-Moses utilizes moves that incorporate cardio exercise, interval training and dance. Join in and register for Zumba Tuesdays. You must be 16 or older to participate.

Concert series

-Something Positive: Feb. 13. A celebration of black history featuring multi-media performing arts, a unique blend of theater, music and dance. It’s an African-Caribbean experience.
-Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company: Feb. 27. A multi-cultural program with dazzling costumes and fantastic music and props that explores one of the most ancient cultures in the world. Includes the traditional ribbon dance. The coming Chinese new year is the Year of the Rabbit.
-Jimmy Moore: March 13. It’s a great day for the Irish (and everyone else) with music from Broadway to Blarney: "My Wild Irish Rose," "Sweet Rosie O’Grady," "The Rose of Tralee," "Harrigan" and "Danny Boy," to name just a few favorites.
-Sister Act: March 27. Sisters Andrea and Celeste will take you on a musical historic journey. Celebrate Women’s History Month in style as they introduce you to some of the most popular female vocalists, including Cher, Tina Turner, The Andrew Sisters, The Supremes, Janis Joplin and Cindi Lauper.
-Frank Barbera Trio: April 3. April is Jazz Appreciation Month and what better way to appreciate it than listening to the wonderful sounds of some of the greatest legends.
