Community Concert in Lynbrook

Event raises money for wounded warriors

Posted

Last Saturday, the Lynbrook Fire Department hosted its fifth annual Wounded Warrior Concert to benefit Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior.

A special guest was wounded US Army Sergeant Robert Scott of Lakeview who, along with his family, traveled back that day from the Walter Reed National Military Hospital at Bethesda, MD where he is still receiving treatment. Bands Playback and The Project donated their time and played for hours.  The Glor na Gael pipes and drums also made an appearance.

A number of organizations, including the American Legion, Lynbrook Republican Club, and Assemblyman Brian Curran made large donations to the cause.  Due to the generosity of Chamber of Commerce members and donations from companies many raffle prizes were won by those in attendance.  The big prize raffle of the night was three sets of JetBlue Airline tickets donated by JetBlue and a set of tickets from Southwest Airlines.

Another surprise during the evening was a visit by former Jet Boomer Esiason who met with Sgt Scott, and even joined the band up on the stage.  Also on display at the concert was a brand new Disabled American Veterans bus that Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior is purchasing to help DAV drive disabled veterans to the VA Hospital in Northport for treatment.
