Walk for education. The New York Order Sons of Italy in America, of Bellmore, in conjunction with the New York State Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc., are sponsoring the Eighth Annual Walk for Education. The event is scheduled for April 30 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, at parking field 5 in the cherry picnic area. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the three-mile walk-a-thon will start at 10 a.m.
Spring schedule. The Hazak Chapter (seniors) of the Bellmore Jewish Center has announced its spring programs, and invites the community to attend any of its presentations or trips. On Wednesday, May 4, at 8:45 a.m., there will be a trip to the Jewish Museum for a docent-guided tour of the new exhibit, "The Art of Conversation: Jewish Women and Their Salons," including a "salon experience." Billboard unveiling. Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, Democrat of Merrick, invites residents to attend the unveiling of the Students Against Destructive Decision Making Contest billboard. The ceremony will take place at the LIPA/Keyspan property at Newbridge Road and Sunrise Highway in Bellmore on Saturday, May 7, at 9 a.m. Brandon Werner, a Birch School sixth-grader, will be honored. Werner submitted the winning poster when he was in fifth grade.
Career day. The Newbridge Road School in Bellmore is gearing up for its Career Day special, which will be held on Thursday, May 26. The school is now looking for adults to share their careers and give advice to children from kindergarten to sixth grade. Comic fun-raiser. The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School is happy to announce that on Sunday, June 5, a number of comedians will come together for a fund-raiser to benefit school. The show begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Brokerage on Merrick Road in Bellmore. Performers will include Vince Dantona and George, Wild Willie, Chris Williamson and Karyn Villante. Support for moms. For mothers living in Bellmore, there is a place that supports and honors them throughout the year. It is the Sunrise Mothers' Center, located in the United Methodist Church on Royle Avenue in Bellmore. Library lingo. On Wednesday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m., the North Bellmore Library will host "Library Lingo." Children ages 8 to 12 will learn library terms in a fun-filled way. Prizes will also be awarded. In person registration begins on Monday, April 18.
Movie night. On Wednesday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m., the library is hosting a viewing of the movie titled "Spanglish," starring Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni.
Puppets to go. Families, with children ages 3 and up, may come to the library on Thursday, April 28 at 2 p.m. to watch "Jeremy's Jungle Adventure." Join Bob Nathanson of "Puppets to Go" as he brings this story to life through his puppets. Tickets will be available beginning Monday, April 18. There will be a limit of three tickets per library card. To accommodate working parents, 70 tickets will be available at 9 a.m., and 50 tickets will be available after 7 p.m.
Simply stronger. Seniors who would like to enjoy the benefits of strength training can register for a series of eight weight-training classes. The classes will be taught by Ellen Coven on Tuesdays, April 19, 26 and May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The benefits of weight training include: stronger muscles and bones, weight control, less fatigue and improved balance. Course cost is $24. Make checks payable to the "North Bellmore Public Library."
