Free mammography testing. The van for free mammography testing will be at the Merrick Library on March 31 and the North Bellmore Library on April 30. Testing will be done between 8:30 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. by appointment only. Mammograms are no cost to women over age 40. Any insurance will be accepted, without co-pay. If you have health insurance, you must bring a prescription from your doctor. If you are uninsured, there will be no charge. Photo ID required. How to grieve your assessment.
Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg will present a forum on how to file a tax grievance with the Assessment Review Commission. The filing period is Jan. 2-March 3. Experts from the Assessment Review Commission will provide assistance, guidance and information on the process. A question-and-answer session and one-on-one assistance will follow. Extend the holidays toy and book drive. Legislator Dave Denenberg and his son, Aron, are running an "extend the holidays" toy and book drive to collect books and toys for donations to hospitalized children and children in need after the holidays. Unwrapped toys, gifts and books may be dropped off at Denenberg's district office, 2818 Merrick Road in Bellmore, Monday through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The deadline for the toy and book drive is Feb. 2. Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts. Members of Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts will perform at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7. The wind symphony and concert band will perform at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall (the main stage) on Feb. 6. The jazz band, jazz ensemble and vocal jazz ensemble will perform "An Evening of Jazz" at 8 p.m. at Hillwood Recital Hall on Feb. 7. Computer Kindergarten for grown-ups. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m. to noon. This is a slow-paced, user-friendly workshop for first-time computer users. This class covers the basics in a way that even the most inexperienced users will understand. $5 fee.
Computer First Grade for grown-ups Wednesday, Feb. 11, 10 a.m. to noon. In this workshop, you will learn how to work with text including inputting, inserting, moving and erasing, learn basic word processing skills, understand commands and dialog boxes. There is a $5 fee. Registration has begun.
