The North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League is holding its second annual Toy and Donation Drive, asking for clothing and unwrapped new toys for the Salvation Army and cash or supermarket gift certificates for local families in need. Tree and menorah lighting. The Merrick Chamber of Commerce invites the town to join in the annual Christmas tree and menorah lighting on Sunday Dec. 7, at the Merrick gazebo at 6 p.m. The Merrick Kiwanis will also be there collecting food and toys for the needy for the holiday season.

Overnight Christmas trip. The Curé of Ars Vianney Fifty Plus Club is sponsoring an overnight trip to make this a special Christmas season. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 8:30 a.m., a bus will depart from the Curé parking lot for Bethlehem, Pa. At Christmas time, Bethlehem is aglow with candlelit windows, glittering trees and the Star of Bethlehem on a mountaintop. Cost is $185 a person, double occupancy. Chanukah concert. Children of all ages will sing and dance at the Merrick Jewish Centres annual Chanukah Family Concert Dec. 23 at 7 p.m., featuring bilingual singer, songwriter, early childhood educator and family entertainer Louie Miranda.

Chanukah ride. On Dec. 2, experience Chanukah by entering a 'time machine' to the years 167-165 B.C.E. This Spectacular Chanukah ride will feature a 10-seat wagon pulled by two horses through the streets of Merrick. Music, treats and surprises at every corner. Rides will take place at Chanukah Wonderland, followed by a Menorah Car Parade ending at Cammans Pond Park with the lighting of an eight-foot Menorah, sponsored by the Chabad Center for Jewish Life of Merrick.
