Salute to Israel. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the state of Israel, a consortium of nine Orthodox, Conservative and Reform synagogues have arranged to participate in the Sunday, June 1, ÒSalute to IsraelÓ parade along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan under the Merrick-Bellmore Jewish Community Center banner to highlight American JewryÕs support for Israel. Lantern play. Neil SimonÕs ÒFoolsÓ will be performed on Saturday, May 31, at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at the Brookside School, 1260 Meadowbrook Road. Tickets are $15 general admission, $13 for seniors only on Saturdays. For further information, call (516) 221-4485.
Spring Pops concert. The Merrick Chorale will present selections from Broadway musicals, with a few heavier pieces on Sunday, June 8, in Rambo Hall of the Bellmore Presbyterian Church, at Bellmore and Martin avenues at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.
AARP trip. The Merrick-Bellmore chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons will offer a trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on Monday, July 14, to see the musical comedy, ÒLet the Good Times Roll.Ó The bus will leave at 8:45 a.m. from CurŽ of Ars Roman Catholic Church on Merrick Avenue. Hockey tryouts. The Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs will hold tryouts for the upcoming season at Newbridge Arena. Junior-varsity grades nine to 11: Thursdays, June 5, 12 and 19, from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m.; for middle school grades six to eight: Thursdays, May 15 and 22, from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. The cost of tryouts is $150. The team is now a Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District squad. Bring a copy of the playerÕs birth certificate. Post collections. Merrick American Legion Post No. 1282 is collecting unserviceable American flags, used cell phones and postage stamps, playing cards, pull tabs from cans, and manufacturer store coupons to be given to military families overseas. Place items in receptacles at the Merrick and North Merrick libraries, Merrick and North Merrick senior centers, Roslyn Savings Bank on Merrick Avenue.

Teen summer reading. Metamorphosis @ Your Library will take place from June 1 to Aug. 21. Ask the librarian for details.
FatherÕs Day craft. The Mommy & Me craft is for children ages 3 to 5 with a helper and will take place on Tuesday, June 10, at 10:30 a.m. Decorate a snack jar. Registration will begin May 28.
Exercise at the library. Helene Just will lead the the following classes: No impact exercise on Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. on June 2, 9 and 16; Tai Chi/Tai Chair on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. on May 8, 15, 22, 29, and June 5 and 12.
Young adult Iron Chef competition. Compete on Friday, May 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. All food provided, including secret ingredients. Fee: $5.
Volunteers needed. The library is looking for young adult volunteers to work as computer volunteers or summer reading club volunteers. Call Larissa Simonovski at (516) 377-6112 ext. 116 for details. Volunteers will receive a certificate with community hours, and their names will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.

Adult craft. Ofa Levin will conduct a workshop to create stunning charm bracelets on Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. Learn the techniques of twisting wire and making loops to link beads and attach dangles. Fee: $10. Limited registration will begin Friday, June 6.
FatherÕs Day craft. Make Dad an astronaut that looks just like him. Bring a wallet-sized picture of your father or the special person you would like to honor. For grades two to six on Tuesday, June 10, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Registration will begin June 3 at 3:30 p.m.
Outdoor concert. North Merrick students will perform at the Showmobile on Wednesday, June 11, at 7 p.m. The North Merrick District jazz ensemble, Word of Mouth a cappella group and the Calhoun jazz ensemble will perform.
Long Island artist. Long Island artist William Sidney Mount will be discussed by Ms. Caruso who will also provide a slideshow on Tuesday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m.
