Quality-of-life issues to be discussed. Legislator Dave Denenberg will host a meeting focusing on youth, crime, village code violations, traffic, sanitation and any other issue of concern on Monday, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Freeport Library, 144 West Merrick Road, Freeport. Guest speakers will include the Village of Freeport Police Department, Nassau County Gang Taskforce, Ted Levy, the director of Freeport Pride, and Village of Freeport representatives. CYO registration. Sacred Heart¹s Catholic Youth Organization girls¹ basketball registration for grades four to 12 is set for Friday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the teachers¹ lounge and on Sunday, June 10, from 11 a.m. until noon. Auditions for teenagers. Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts is holding auditions for teenagers interested in performing in the wind symphony, concert band, vocal jazz ensemble, jazz band and jazz ensemble. Rehearsals are on Saturday mornings from October to May at East Meadow High School, and concerts are performed at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Flea market and craft fair. Merrick United Methodist Church will hold a crafts fair and flea market on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Accepting subscriptions. The Merrick-Bellmore Community Concert Association is accepting subscriptions for its 2007-08 concert season. The season includes the St. Petersburg String Quartet, joined by pianist Seth Knopp; Burning River Brass, performing pieces ranging from Renaissance Canzoni to Duke Ellington; Red Priest, called ³the Cirque du Soleil of baroque performance ensembles²; and Brazilian pianist Arnaldo Cohen. Bus trip. The Gardens of Long Island on a Summer Day bus trip will leave the parking lot of Mar Thoma Church at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, en route for the gardens in The Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack. The fee is $47 and registration is ongoing.
Babysitting course. Nurses from Winthrop University Hospital will teach a two-hour course for teenagers in grades 7 to 12, covering first aid, proper child care, diaper changing, bottle feeding and more on Wednesday, June 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants from the workshop will receive a certificate and will be able to attend a babysitting job fair on June 8 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Art exhibit. Watercolorist Gail Goodstein will display her ³Painting and Poetry, Encore² exhibit at the library through June 29. A reception will be held on Sunday, June 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. For information, call (516) 377-6112.

Sunday concert. Merrick students will present a musical salute on Sunday, June 11, in the Town of Hempstead Showmobile beginning at 7:30 p.m. Performers will include the North Merrick jazz band and jazz pops, the Merrick Avenue Middle School Word of Mouth choir and the Calhoun High School jazz band.
Teens and Tots training program. The program teaches teenagers how to read and do simple crafts with kindergarten through third-grade children on Monday, June 14, or Monday, July 9, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The Teens and Tots will take place Thursday afternoons July 12 to Aug. 23.

Defensive Driving. Open to all ages, the course will be held on Saturday, June 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fee: $35 payable by check only.
Introduction to computers. Computer kindergarten for grownups will be held on Monday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to noon, Computer 1st grade for grownups will be held on Monday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon; Computer 3rd grade for grownups will be held on Monday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration for all workshops will begin on Friday, June 1. Fee: $5 per session. Class participants will receive free, unlimited support by e-mail and a free subscription to an e-mail newsletter.
