St. Barnabas services. The services of Holy Week at St. Barnabas the Apostle Catholic Church are as follows: Palm Sunday Masses will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 5 and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 9, at 7, 9, 10:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. Family Mass will be held in the Holy Family Chapel at 10:15 a.m.


On Holy Thursday, April 13, morning prayer will be held at 9 a.m. The Mass of the Lord's Supper, 7:30 p.m. Adoration of the Blessed sacrament will follow service until 11 a.m.


St. John's services. Holy Week services at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellmore will be as follows: Palm Sunday, April 9, at 9:30 a.m. Service will be followed by crafts and children's Easter egg hunt. On Thursday, April 13, Absolution and Holy Communion services will be held at 7:30 p.m. On April 13, Good Friday, there will be a children's gathering at 10:30 a.m., and Solemn service of word and prayer at 7:30 p.m.


Grace Evangelical services. Holy Week services at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Bellmore are as follows: Holy Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.; Good Friday, April 14, Stations of the Cross service to be held at 9 a.m., the Way of the Cross for Children at 11 a.m. and Good Friday Liturgy at 7:30 p.m.


Blood drive. The Newbridge Road PTA will sponsor its second annual blood drive with Long Island Blood Services on Monday, April 10, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Newbridge Road School cafeteria. The PTA reminds community members that there is a tremendous blood supply shortage on Long Island and throughout the New York metropolitan area.


Easter Parade. The Bellmore Village Merchants Association and Ridgewood Savings Bank will sponsor their annual Easter Parade on Saturday, April 8, at noon. The event will take place rain or shine. Children will line up at the Bellmore Firehouse on Pettit Avenue, and march through Bellmore Village. For more information, call April at (516) 785-5842.


The Stage presents. The Stage Theater will present "Mary Poppins" from now through May 6, on Saturdays at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, call (516) 868-6400.


"Pump Boys and Dinettes" will also be playing at The Stage through April 15. Saturday performances begin at 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. There will be one Thursday performance on March 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18. Senior citizens and students pay $14 for Friday and Sunday shows. Call the box office for tickets.


Mammography testing. Mammography testing has come again to the district of Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg. The van for mammography testing will be stationed at the following locations between 8:30 a.m. and 2:10 p.m.: on Tuesday, April 18, at Curé of Ars Church in Merrick; Thursday, May 25, at North Bellmore Library; Wednesday, June 28, at North Merrick Library. Testing is free for women over 40; any insurance is accepted. Those who have health insurance must bring a prescription. Testing is free for those without insurance. Bring photo ID. Rebuilding together. Rebuilding Together, LI is an organization of volunteers that does no-cost home repairs for low-income families, particularly those who are disabled, elderly and/or single parent families. The next meeting of Rebuilding Together, LI will be held on Wednesday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Maria Regina Church in Massapequa. For more information, call (516) 541-7322.


Mepham Alumni spring brunch. The Mepham Alumni Association invites Mepham alumni to attend it's annual Spring Brunch, to be held Sunday, May 7, from noon to 4 p.m., at Hofstra's University Club. Bellmore Library





Free computer classes. New computer users are invited to sign up for Computer First Grade for Adults, to be held Wednesday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. At 1 p.m., another class will be held for e-mail instruction. Students will learn how to open an e-mail account and to use e-mail.


Children's programs. Children, ages 3 to 7, are invited to attend the Talespinners' Show, a delightful family show of music and stories. The show will take place on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. Register on Monday, April 3, after 6 p.m.


N. Bellmore Library





Tax time. The library is offering a tax-assistance program for senior citizens through the American Association of Retired Persons Tax Aid program. AARP volunteers are at the library on Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring last year's tax return, as well as any W-2 and 1099 forms. Federal and New York state tax forms are available near the Reference Desk. Reference librarians will be happy to assist.


Children's programs. Toddler Story-Time Plus is an enjoyable story session for children ages 2 and 3, and their parent or caregiver. The 30-minute program is led by Ms. Jane, and features stories, songs and finger plays. Groups will meet Wednesdays, April 12, 19 and 26, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. In-person registration begins Wednesday, April 5.


AARP. The library is currently registering for AARP Alive, ages 50 and up, to be held Monday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Register at the Reference Desk, with a check payable to AARP.
