Board meeting. The Bellmore Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m., in the Winthrop Avenue School boardroom at 580 Winthrop Ave. in Bellmore. All local residents are encouraged to attend.


Suburban temple play. The Suburban Temple of Wantagh, at 2900 Jerusalem Ave., is presenting "The Rothschilds" on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. This Tony Award-winning Broadway musical comes from the writers who developed "Fiddler On The Roof," and chronicles Europe's most famous rags-to-riches story. There will be one performance only. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $20 for seniors and children. For more information and tickets, call (516) 783-3638. Tickets will also be sold at the door.


Religious education classes. St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church is currently accepting applications for its upcoming religious education classes for the 2005-06 school year. Parents and guardians of children attending local public schools, from first to eighth grades, who are members of the parish or want to become members and want their children to attend religious classes, are welcomed to register with the St. Barnabas program. Lupus fund-raiser. The Lupus Alliance of America, Long Island-Queens Affiliate is once again selling the Entertainment 2006 coupon book to raise funds for patient services. The books are available now through Jan. 5, 2006. The book contains thousands of discount offers from local and national restaurants, hotels, resorts, entertainment venues and other merchants. Safety brochures available. According to the National Weather Service, June was the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season. Although the chances of Long Island being hit with a major hurricane are unlikely, state Sen. Charles Fuschillo Jr., a Republican of Merrick, is offering residents a free brochure with information about disaster preparedness to help them be ready in an emergency. Children's program. Toddlers can now meet the following cartoon characters in person: "Dora" on Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., registration on Sept. 26, after 6 p.m.; "Blue Dog" on Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., registration on Oct. 17, after 6 p.m.


SAT practice test. A representative of Kaplan will administer a timed exam, given under simulated conditions. the graded exam will be returned at the next SAT program. The test will be given on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. The test is free.


SAT Test secrets. A Kaplan instructor will present a seminar covering the format and content of the SAT exam, various question types, and a basic study for success. Those who took the practice test will receive the graded exam. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The course is free.


Visit from local author. Pioneering Zionist and former Irgun soldier, Jacob Gurewich, provides a unique insight to the turmoil faced by Israel's leadership on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. The presentation will be given during Gurewich's presentation of his new book titled "Fear Factors".


N. Bellmore Library





Decorated journal. Join Angela De Palma on Tuesday, Oct. 18, to create a beautiful decorated fold out journal. Participants will have a choice of journals, and can decorate with a choice of beads and ornaments. This is a great opportunity for a gift or a keep sake. For more information, please visit the library's reference desk. There is also a $5 materials fee due at the time of registration.


SAT preparation. The North Bellmore Public Library is offering a six-week SAT review course. The classes will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 22, 29, Oct. 6, 20, 27 and Nov. 3, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Course cost is $75, and should be made payable by check to "Mellissa Bielawski." Register at the library's reference desk.


Annual blood drive. The library's annual blood drive will be held in the community room on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 7:30 p.m.


AARP 55-Alive. Registration for the AARP 55 - Alive driving courses is ongoing. Register at the library's reference desk and bring a check for $10 made payable to "AARP."
