Nassau University Medical Center seeks volunteers to assist on site at the greenhouse. Community members may be unaware of the beautiful, all volunteer-run greenhouse on the grounds of the NUMC. As the spring and summer months approach, they are looking for volunteers to assist in the planting and growing of plants, as well as cashiers and plant sellers. Summer volunteer program at NUMC
Nassau University Medical Center seeks High School Students for Summer Volunteer program. Are you a high school student, ages 14-18, looking for a great opportunity to volunteer over the summer months? NUMC seeks high school students interested in the fast-paced field of health care in a hospital setting. Students have an opportunity to assist staff members with various tasks. First Annual Community Recognition ceremony
Will be held by the East Meadow Kiwanis to recognize those non-Kiwanians who have supported our organization over the years. This evening event is being hosted by TD Bank of East Meadow, on the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Ave and will take place on March 31 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A blood drive

Help Clarke 'Run with the Rams'
First Annual 5K Run with the Rams will take place on April 25 at Clarke High School. The event, sponsored by the Clarke High School Athletic Department, will include a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run. All proceeds will benefit Clarke's athletic program and charitable organizations. All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast
On March 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the East Meadow Kiwanis Club offers a delicious way to help others in need. Unlimited juice, pancakes, sausages, coffee and tea. Plus, free blood pressure screenings, face painting, balloons, door prizes and raffle drawings for a GPS car navigation system, Blu-Ray disc player and a digital camera. Proceeds go toward the club's college scholarship and underprivileged children projects. Homebound services
At the East Meadow Public Library. Did you know that you do not have to give up the Library if you are confined to your home? It is true. The library will come to you. Community Services Librarian, MaryEllen Fosso, will fill your requests and bring them to your home. Can't decide what you want to read, what DVD, or what CD, you would like? Ms. Fosso will make some choices and deliver them to your home for you. In order to get the Homebound Service, you must have a doctor's note. Call Ms. Fosso at 794-2570 ext. 216 for information and an application.

Temple Emanuel

Workmen's Circle Yiddish Classes
Are hosted at the Nassau Cultural Center, 574 East Meadow Ave. There will be 12 sessions starting March 1 through June 7. The East Meadow local lodge, Edward J. Speno Lodge No. 2568, are calling on Italians and Italian Americans to join the largest men and women organization in America, the Order of Sons of Italy in America. Crisis counseling
The Long Island Crisis Center offers 24-hour/seven-day-a-week crisis intervention counseling. Anyone who is depressed, needs help in controlling teenagers or wants to beat an addiction is encouraged to call (516) 679-1111. Calls are free and anonymous.
Help for smokers.
The Nassau County Department of Health, in collaboration with the New York State Smokers' Quitline, is sponsoring a program which offers four weeks of nicotine replacement therapy for smokers who want to quit. The therapy also known as "the patch" is available to medically-eligible county residents at no cost. Residents should call the New York Smokers' Quitline at 1-866-697-8487
