Bridge games

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned player, the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC (15 Neil Court, Oceanside) has a duplicate bridge game for you. Facilitated by Marie Fiorillo, this on-going game takes place every Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. You will be matched with other participants at your level of experience -- whether you're a beginner or an experienced player looking for some handy tips. JCC's gardening club

Get set for planting at The Gardening Club at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 15 Neil Court, Oceanside. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. From 11:30 a.m. noon is lunch (bring your own) and chat followed by programs from noon to 1 p.m. (noon to 1:30 p.m. for Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture Programs).

Jasa ProgramHighlights

The JASA Long Beach Senior Center offers a variety of programs of interest to residents of Nassau County, ages 60 and over. A hot kosher lunch is served daily for a suggested contribution of $2. Activities are free unless otherwise indicated. Call 432-555 for further information.

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 1 p.m. - JASA hosts an afternoon of Contract Bridge, led by Dorothy Regensberg. Free and open to the public.

Library events



Creative Writing Series: Discovering the Writer Within by Barbara Novack, an award-winning writer and member of Molloy College's English Department, invited you to explore and stretch your creativity in this monthly writing workshop from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 19, Feb. 16 and March 16.

All levels are invited to attend one or more of these workshops, which are designed to help writers grow through exploring concepts and sharing their work with others. Through exercises and verbal and visual prompts, participants will learn how to tap into their creativity and use words in wonderful ways. The program is free and open to all.

Art Lecture: The Sculpture of Michelangelo. Prof. Donald Dwyer presents this retrospective of Michelangelo Buronarroti's (1475-1564) earliest works through his final "modern" late pietas. The retrospective starts at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Concert: Traveling Around the World with a Song: A New Year's Celebration. Join director Soh Young Lee-Segredo and her 17-member multi-cultural choir as they perform songs throughout the world to herald the start of another great New Year. Tickets are required from 2 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Cooking/Tasting Demonstration: Superbowl Cuisine. Chef Patricia Bove prepares tasty dishes to satisfy the hungriest of appetites for football Sundays and tailgate parties from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 25.

AARP



The next Oceanside AARP meeting will be held Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 80 Anchor Ave. The public is welcome.

Oceansiders older than 55 are invited to join the AARP on its exciting trips and keep current with all information concerning seniors. The group will be entertained by the Oceanside Chorale Group. For more information, call 771-0986.is the brainchild of the County's Homeless Taskforce, created in October 2002. Section 8 employees in the Office of Housing and Intergovernmental Affairs will answer all calls to the hotline. During business hours calls will be referred to the Department of Social Services for appropriate services. Between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 a.m., section 8 employees will make appropriate referrals and provide shelter placement.
