Sea Gate Remembered

Local author Arnold Rosen will present an author talk and nostalgic slideshow on his latest book, Sea Gate Remembered: New York City's First Gated Community, on Thursday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Sea Gate, a Brooklyn seaside community located at the southwestern tip of Brooklyn, is chronicled in Arnold's book, which acquaints readers with the rich, diverse history and lore of this famously picturesque locale. From Henry Hudson's exploration of the area's waterfront in 1609 to the founding of the Sea Gate Association in 1899, momentous events marked this town's beginnings long before the symbolic gate was erected. Readers will discover life in the "gate" at the turn of the century as well as travel to its famous lighthouse that has stood as a beacon and gateway for ships arriving in New York Harbor for over 100 years.

This program is open to all. For more information, call 766-2360.

Long Island's Lantern Theater will present a staged reading of the play, Talley's Folly, at the Oceanside Library on Wednesday, May 12 at 2 p.m.

This gentle and humorous play is Part II in a renowned cycle of plays featuring the Talley's that began with "Fifth of July."
