Elections On Tuesday, Nov. 9, local fire and water commissioner election will be held. All fire elections are at the respective firehouses (West Hempstead 4- 9 p.m., Lakeview 3-9 p.m., Franklin Square 1 to 9 p.m.) West Hempstead Water election at George Washington School and Washington Street School, Franklin Square, from 4-9 p.m.
VS North concerts To put yourself in the holiday spirit, community residents are invited to attend any of the free high school concerts of choral and instrumental music this December. On Thur., Dec. 4, North Senior High Winter Concert, 7:30 p.m.; Thur., Dec. 11, North 9th and 10th Grade Winter Concert, 7:30 p.m., Tues., Dec. 16, North Junior High Winter Concert, 7:30 p.m. At North High School.
Budget Advisory The Franklin Square Board of Education is looking for residents age 18 and over interested in becoming a member of the Citizen's Budget Advisory Committee to contact Asst. Super Karen Occhiogosso at 505-6965 before Dec. 8.
Pancakes and Santa! The West Hempstead Lions Club will begin a new tradition this year with its First Annual Holiday Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, December 7 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 Noon at the Boulder Creek Restaurant, 700 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square . The cost is $5.00 per adult or child (collected at the door).Each child's admission will entitle the child to a 4 x 6 photo with Santa Claus.
Holiday At Hall's Holiday At Hall's Pond Park, the West Hempstead Civic Association's annual community celebration of the season, will return this year - subject to having enough volunteers and participants to make the event a success on Sunday, December 14, between 2 p.m and 4 p.m. The WHCA is reaching out to residents to help plan and stage the festivities at Hall's Pond Park, and for local talent to become involved. Exec Board of the West Hempstead Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the Teachers' Lounge of the George Washington Elementary School.
Elmont Holiday The Annual Holiday Menorah and Tree Lighting Ceremony for Elmont will be held on Wednesday, December 3 at 6 p.m. in Elmont's Veterans Square located at Hempstead Turnpike and Covert Avenue. Refreshments and a small gift will be given to those who attend.
Health fair The Nigerian Nurses Association of USA will conduct a free health fair at the Municipal Credit Union, Elmont branch, on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 3 p.m to 6p.m. Appropriately titled "Living Healthy and Health Maintenance Day," members of this not-for-profit, community-oriented organization will conduct blood pressure and glucose screening; and provide verbal and written information on nutrition, diabetes, hypertension, and smoking cessation.
