Rummage Sale at Congregation Beth Sholom from Sunday, Dec. 7 through Thursday, Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Christmas Barter at the People's Church, 111 Delaware Ave., on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6. Raffles, 50/50, and more. Proceeds support the church's Mission Outreach and other ministries as it seeks to help people in need of food, clothing and spiritual help.

Sandy Rossi will perform at the Long Beach Public Library this Sunday, December 7 at 2 p.m.along with pianist Tony Monte.

Special Events



St. Ignatius Choral Society will sing selections from Handel's universally beloved work, Messiah, as its holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. Dr. Denis Nicholson will conduct the chorus and orchestra. A donation of $7 is requested. The church is located at Grand Boulevard and West Penn Street.

Advent Evening Prayer services at St. Mary of the Isle R.C. Church will be held on Dec. 4, 11 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.

A Memorial Service for Army Pfc. Jacob Fletcher will be held for the community on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 455 Neptune Blvd. Fletcher was killed in Iraq on Nov. 14. A Babylon native, he was the son of Marlowe Fletcher, a congregant of Temple Emanu-El. For information, call 431-4060.

Hannukkah Candle Lighting ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 455 Neptune Blvd. The entire community is cordially invited to attend.

Read Hebrew America classes are offered Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. at Lido Synagogue.

Creative Writing Workshops: How to Start and How to Continue, led by Barbara Fischkin, author, journalist and educator. The workshops will be held at the Barry & Florence Friedberg JCC, 310 National Blvd., on the following Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m.: Dec. 10, A Writing Workshop; Dec. 17, How to Get Your Writing Published. Arthritis Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the Long Beach Medical Center, 455 E. Bay Drive, at 2 p.m. The topic is "How to Male Your Home Safe and Efficient," with Joan Gallagher, RN, from LBMC. The meeting, co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation and LBMC, is open to the public and free of charge. For information, call the Arthritis Foundation at (631) 427-8272.

Safe Sitter Program, offered by LBMC, takes place on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is a one-day seminar for youths age 11 to 13, designed to teach the basics of childcare and safety. Nightwatch The Nightwatch Hotline in Long Beach offers crisis counseling and referral to callers from all over the area, free of charge. Hotline hours are Sunday-Thursday from 6-11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Call 889-2332.

Diabetes Club The Diabetes Club meets the third Monday each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium at LBMC. Topics include nutritional management, medications, eye and foot care, exercise and more.

Nar-Anon is for anyone who has known a feeling of desperation concerning the drug addiction problem of someone near to them. Meetings every Thursday at 7:45 p.m. at the Island Park United Methodist Church, 364 Long Beach Rd., Island Park, across from the Post Office.

Anxiety and Depression screenings are offered for free at LBMC's Counseling Center. Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Includes an interview with a mental health professional. Pre-registration not required. Call 897-1270.

Bereavement Support On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center's Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. This free support group will be led by a mental health professional. For information, call 897-1270.

Senior Spotlight



Beginners meditation is held on Wednesdays, 2-3 p.m. at the Long Beach Senior/Community Center with Lisa Wisel. Wisel also conducts Dance/Movement Therapy on Wednesdays and Fridays 1-2 p.m., and Fridays 2-3 p.m. Free to all seniors. Call 431-3510 for information.

Local AARP Long Beach chapter #5348 will have its monthly meeting Friday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. for residents of Long Beach, Island Park, Lido Beach, Point Lookout, East Atlantic Beach and Atlantic Beach. P.A.C.E. Members of the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, Long Beach Division 310 National Blvd., Long Beach enjoy the benefits of music and dance through our P.A.C.E program. P.A.C.E, People with Arthritis Can Dance, helps those with arthritis enjoy movement and hopefully helps to alleviate some of the stiffness that comes with arthritis. Lisa Wisel, MS, ADTR, CLM is a registered Dance/Movement therapist, leads the class. The class meets every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
