Support Groups
Substance help. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Thursday evening and Alanon meetings are held every Sunday evening in the school cafeteria of St. Barnabas Church in Bellmore. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m.

First Wednesday of every month, beginning October 3
Mothers helping mothers. The Sunrise Mother's Center, a non-profit, nonsectarian, member-run organization of mothers helping mother. The center is a place for mothers to meet, share experiences and develop new or existing skills. Discussion groups, committee work and special events, as well as a Time for Two program for children ages 12 months to three years old and their caregivers are also available. Quality, affordable childcare is also available for mothers attending discussion groups.

E. Meadow Library
The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an art contest for children at the library. The subject of the artwork is "The Things We Did Last Summer," and entries should be no larger than 11x14 and will be accepted at the Community Services Desk. The fee is $5 per entry. Judging will take place on Monday, Oct. 15, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Challenging censorship Donald Parker of the Long Island Coalition Against Censorship will be the guest speaker at the library. He will discuss such cases as the removal of eleven books from the Island Trees High School library that led to the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision six years later. There will be a short videotape, "Tell It Like It Is," which includes interviews with prominent authors, and a discussion following. Coffee and tea will be available at noon.
