St. Francis Church offers Sunday Mass at 10 a.m., Fellowship, coffee and rolls at 11 a.m. Hall rental available, reasonable for parties or meetings. Call 794-5189. Located at 1752 Harton Ave., East Meadow.

Christ the King Episcopal Church is on Fifth Street and DeWolfe Place, between Newbridge Road and Prospect Avenue. Sunday services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. followed by coffee hour. Sunday School, and Playtime School for 3 and 4 year-olds are also available. Call church office at 731-3902.

Open House The Edward J. Speno Lodge 2568 is having a new membership enrollment for all of those of Italian descent or whose spouse is of Italian descent. Meetings are at Workmen's Circle, 574 East Meadow Ave. on the second Monday of the month. Contact Pat at (516) 794-9646.

"T. rex on Trial" is an exciting new exhibit opening at the Sands Point Reserve, 95 Middleneck Rd. Combining the robotic technology of world-renowned Kokoro Dinosaurs with the expertise of paleontologists from the Museum of the Rockies, this unique exhibits asks the visitor whether the carnivore, Tyrannosaurus rex, was a fearsome predator or an opportunistic scavenger. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors (60+). Members of the Friends for Long Island's Heritage are admitted for half-price. On weekends and holidays, there is an additional $2 preserve admission fee for all visitors over the age of 12. School and camp group rates are available by reservation. African-American museum in Hempstead is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibits: "African American Places of Worship on Long Island: Climbing Jacob's Ladder," a photographic display by Robert L. Harrison; and "To God Be The Glory," a photographic exhibition featuring the oldest African Methodist Episcopal Churches in Suffolk County. The museum is located at 110 North Franklin Street. Regular museum hours are Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Sunday, 1 to 4:45 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Noontime concerts The Canon Noontime Concert Series returns to Eisenhower Park this summer. The park has entrances on Hempstead Turnpike, and at the intersection of Stewart and Merrick Avenues. E. Meadow Library

The Decalogue The remaining parts of Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski's films about the Ten Commandments return to the library.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an art contest for children at the library. The subject of the artwork is "The Things We Did Last Summer" and entries should be no larger than 11x14 and will be accepted at the Community Services Desk. The fee is $5 per entry. Judging will take place on Monday, October 15, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

July hours The library will operate on its regular summer schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 9-9; Wednesday, 11-9; Saturday, 9-1.

Exhibition Art students from the Woodland Middle School, under the direction of Dr. John W. Healy, will exhibit their paintings in the downstairs Meeting Room during July and August.

Special Events

Puffin Adventures is the film being presented at the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve's Weekend Film Festival, Barry Drive, Glen Cove. The 30-minute film, suitable for general audiences, enables viewers to observe the Common Puffins during the summer months on the rocky shores on both sides of the Atlantic. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children 5 to 12. Children under 5 will be admitted free when accompanied by a parent or grandparent. For information, call 571-8010.

Thursday Night Car Classics is being sponsored by the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce. Every Thursday, classic vintage cars will be on display on Atlantic Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road. Different entertainers will perform weekly.

Music From China is an instrumental ensemble appearing at Eisenhower Park (Entrances on Hempstead Turnpike at East Meadow Avenue, and at the intersection of Stewart and Merrick Avenues) to play lyrical Chinese music. The stage will be trampled underfoot with a performance of Lion Dancing, as well as Chinese folk and traditional dancing by the Chinese Folk Dance Company. The audience will also be treated to entertainment presented by the Lai Yin Musical Society. The concerts are free and take place at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre near parking fields 6 and 6A. Concertgoers should bring folding chairs. If weather conditions are doubtful, call 572-0252 after 6 p.m. for an update on the performance.

Admission is free and the concert is held adjacent to parking fields 6 and 6A. It is suggested that concertgoers bring their own lunch and chairs. Wednesday, August 8, noon to 2 p.m.

Village brass band concert will have a variety of quick steps, marches, waltzes, schottisches and concert pieces from the mid-1800's, at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, on Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, one mile south of Long Island Expressway Exit 48. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for resident senior citizens, children ages 5-12, persons with disabilities, volunteer firefighters, volunteer ambulance corps members, auxiliary police and veterans. Support Groups

Substance help. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Thursday evening and Alanon meetings are held every Sunday evening in the school cafeteria of St. Barnabas Church in Bellmore. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m.

Mothers helping mothers. The Sunrise Mother's Center, a non-profit, nonsectarian, member-run organization of mothers helping mother. The center is a place for mothers to meet, share experiences and develop new or existing skills. Discussion groups, committee work and special events, as well as a Time for Two program for children ages 12 months to three years old and their caregivers are also available.
