Lynbrook

Greis Park Preschool, open to Lynbrook residents & School District 20 taxpayers, still has openings in its 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. sessions for 3- and 4-year-olds. Call 599-8000.

Pool registration The Village of Lynbrook's Recreation Dept. is holding registration for the Village's new public pool at Greis Park. Applications are available at the park's Recreation Building, Village Hall, Lynbrook Library and local stores. Residents of the Incorporated Village will be asked for proof of residence, valid ID, and proof of age. Certified lifeguards are also needed for employment from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Rotary Club of Lynbrook and East Rockaway is presenting its Fourth Annual John Rossetti "Service Above Self" Dinner on Wednesday, June 27, 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Pompei Restaurant.

Lynbrook's Farmers Market opened with a petting zoo, an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, jams, jellies, baked goods, breads and cheeses. Thursday Night Car Classics is sponsored by the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce. Every Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., June 28 to August 23, classic vintage cars will be displayed on Atlantic Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road. Malverne

L.I. Ducks game sponsored by the Malverne Youth Board on Sunday, July 1. Tickets are on sale during June. The cost is $5. No transportation is provided. For information, call 599-1200.

Board of Education will be having two SAVE legislation meetings on June 26 and 28.The topics being discussed are: the school districts code of conduct and district/building safety plans. Both meetings are at 8 p.m. in the Malverne High School library. Copies of the code of conduct can be picked up in the Malverne Administration building or in any Malverne school.

Hershey Park trips are being held by the Malverne Youth Board, for Saturday, July 7 and August 25. Registration is at Village Hall, 99 Church Street. Tickets are $22 per person. Bus leaves at 6:15 a.m. and returns approximately at 10 p.m.

Challenge of the bands will be on Friday, August 3. Please drop off tape at the Village Hall, 99 Church Street, no later than July 13. Bands must have one member living in Malverne.

Aida Broadway show trip will be on Wednesday, July 11, 8:30 p.m.. Tickets are $30 each for adults and $20 for youths 13 and older. Bus leaves Village Hall, 99 Church Street at 5:30 p.m. Registration is at Village Hall.

East Rockaway

World Cup Soccer Clinic for children ages 3 through 6 is being offered by East Rockaway Recreation. The clinic meets Saturdays at Memorial Park. Ages 3 and 4 meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and ages 5 and 6 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Fees are $35 for East Rockaway residents and $40 for non-resident children. Registration is by mail only. Santino to be honored The Monsignor Walsh Saint Raymond Council #7220 Knights of Columbus in East Rockaway will be having an Italian Night Festival on Saturday June 23 from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Saint Raymond Church (school cafeteria) at 263 Atlantic Avenue in East Rockaway. This year's honored guest is Councilman Anthony Santino. The festival will feature a hot buffet dinner, entertainment and dancing. Tickets are $27 per person. Free 911 cell phones are available for domestic violence victims, provided by the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. These phones, donated for recycling by the community, allow users to summon help by making an immediate 911 contact if alarmed or confronted by someone violating an order of protection. There is no charge for placing a 911 call. Phones are available free of charge by calling the domestic/dating violence hotline at 542-0404 between the hours of 9 and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Senior spotlight

Widowed persons service The AARP is looking for volunteers to serve on a steering committee in western Nassau County. A group of interested widowed people and agencies is meeting to assist the newly widowed in their grief and to support them in rebuilding their lives with the help of the AARP Widowed Person Service. Defensive driving course Lynbrook residents over age 50 interested in taking the AARP "55 Alive" course may put their names on a waiting list at the Lynbrook Library's reference desk. 2001: a reading odyssey is this year's theme for the summer reading program. Registration begins Monday, June 25 and the first day of reporting is Monday, July 2. Help for battered women The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence operates a safe home for battered mothers and their children, or for women who are victims of violent relationships.
