Community Events
Teens celebrated "East Meadow Celebrates Its Teens" is the theme of a program sponsored by the East Meadow Jewish Community Relations Council at the group's Community Center at Suburban Park, 400 Old Westbury Rd. The program is free to teenagers in the East Meadow School District and their friends in the surrounding area. Teenagers starting at the sixth grade and up are invited to join their fellow students for a night of fun before camp starts. Activities include outdoor basketball and volleyball, use of the computer room for games and the Internet, Ping Pong and other events. Refreshments will be served. "T. rex on Trial" is an exciting new exhibit opening at the Sands Point Reserve, 95 Middleneck Rd. Combining the robotic technology of world-renowned Kokoro Dinosaurs with the expertise of paleontologists from the Museum of the Rockies, this unique exhibits asks the visitor whether the carnivore, Tyrannosaurus rex, was a fearsome predator or an opportunistic scavenger. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors (60+). Members of the Friends for Long Island's Heritage are admitted for half-price. On weekends and holidays, there is an additional $2 preserve admission fee for all visitors over the age of 12. School and camp group rates are available by reservation. The Decalogue is a film and discussion series inspired by the Ten Commandments. These films directed by Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, each under an hour in length, dramatizes one of the Commandments through the lives of the residents of a Warsaw apartment house and ponders the meaning of life and death, morality and the existence of God. The films are in Polish with English subtitles. Coffee and tea are available at noon. No tickets are needed and admission is free. The series picks up from Part IV.

Substance help. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Thursday evening and Alanon meetings are held every Sunday evening in the school cafeteria of St. Barnabas Church in Bellmore. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m.
Mothers helping mothers. The Sunrise Mother's Center, a non-profit, nonsectarian, member-run organization of mothers helping mother. The center is a place for mothers to meet, share experiences and develop new or existing skills. Discussion groups, committee work and special events, as well as a Time for Two program for children ages 12 months to three years old and their caregivers are also available.
