St. Francis Church offers Sunday Mass at 10 a.m., Fellowship, coffee and rolls at 11 a.m. Hall rental available, reasonable for parties or meetings. Call 794-5189. Located at 1752 Harton Ave., East Meadow.
Christ the King Episcopal Church is on Fifth Street and DeWolfe Place, between Newbridge Road and Prospect Avenue. Sunday services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. followed by coffee hour. Sunday School, and Playtime School for 3 and 4 year-olds are also available. Call church office at 731-3902.

Open House The Edward J. Speno Lodge 2568 is having a new membership enrollment for all of those of Italian descent or whose spouse is of Italian descent. Meetings are at Workmen's Circle, 574 East Meadow Ave. on the second Monday of the month. Contact Pat at (516) 794-9646.
Car wash sponsored by the McVey Elementary School Student Council takes place at the main entrance of the school. The price for cars is $5 and $7 for vans. Coffee, drinks, cookies and cake are available for purchase. Proceeds go to Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., LI/Queens Chapter.

E. Meadow Library


Hand-Painted Glass will be shown in an exhibition during May, by Carlene Brod. It can be viewed in the Browsing Room showcases on the main floor during regular hours. Ms. Brod is a Valley Forge-based artist who has exhibited her work in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Her collection includes sets of glasses, vases, bowls, and more.
The Decalogue is a film and discussion series inspired by the Ten Commandments. These films directed by Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, each under an hour in length, dramatizes one of the Commandments through the lives of the residents of a Warsaw apartment house and ponders the meaning of life and death, morality and the existence of God. The films are in Polish with English subtitles. Coffee and tea are available at noon. No tickets are needed and admission is free. The series picks up from Part IV.

Perceptions and Expressions is the name of an exhibition presented by four painters at the library throughout June.

June hours at the library are as follows: Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning June 23 until September; the rest of the month the library will be operating on its regular schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Small Watercolors will be exhibited by Walter Enderlein throughout June.
Fathers and Sons in the Theatre is a special program presented by Estelle Aden of Hofstra University's drama department. Three great artists of the stage will be discussed: Jacob Adler, Rudolph Schildkraut and Philip Weisenfreund. Coffee and tea available at noon. No tickets are needed and admission is free.
Cabaret Night at the library features the mellow jazz of the Matt Chertkoff Trio. The trio plays popular standards in a seamless blend of jazz, blues and Latin music centered around Matt's guitar work.

Community Pride Day will be held at Speno Park. There's limited parking, and a free bus shuttle service from Veterans Memorial Park (corner of Prospect Avenue and East Meadow Avenue) and Speno Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Support Groups

Substance help. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Thursday evening and Alanon meetings are held every Sunday evening in the school cafeteria of St. Barnabas Church in Bellmore. All meetings start at 7:30 p.m.
Mothers helping mothers. The Sunrise Mother's Center, a non-profit, nonsectarian, member-run organization of mothers helping mother. The center is a place for mothers to meet, share experiences and develop new or existing skills. Discussion groups, committee work and special events, as well as a Time for Two program for children ages 12 months to three years old and their caregivers are also available.
