Lynbrook:
The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual carnival May 3- 6, featuring rides, food, drinks and crafts. On Sunday, May 6, the farmers market will open for the season. POP night is Thursday; $15 admission for unlimited rides.
Greis Park Preschool, open to Lynbrook residents & School District 20 taxpayers, still has openings in its 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. sessions for 3- and 4-year-olds. Call 599-8000.
The Village of Lynbrook's Recreation Dept. is holding registration for the Village's new public pool @ Greis Park. Applications are available at the park's Recreation Building, Village Hall, Lynbrook Library & local stores. Incorporated residents will be asked for proof of residence, valid ID, & proof of age. Certified lifeguards are also needed for employment between Memorial & Labor Day. Call 599-8000.
Piano Recital On Saturday, April 28, 2:00 p.m., there is going to be a piano recital featuring the advanced students of Vincente Batsford. Reception will follow. For information call (516) 596-2700. The recital takes place at Atria Lynbrook, 100 Peninsula Blvd.
Malverne:
Board of Trustees The Malverne Library Board of Trustees will meet at 8 p.m. in the library's Colwell Room on the following dates: May 21 & June 18.

Art and Soul of Lynbrook holds several evening programs including Palm Reading every third Thurs. of the month from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Visitors may sign up at the store, 379 Sunrise Highway, or call 872-1844 to schedule a session. The Catfish Cafe at 172 Merrick Road in Lynbrook will present the Witch Doctors on Friday, April 27. Show begins at 8 p.m.
Acts II Coffee House. On the first and third Sat. of every month, enjoy contemporary Christian music at the garden level of the Church of the Nazarene, 124 Garfield Ave. at Ocean Ave. in East Rockaway. Free 911 Cell Phones are available for domestic violence victims, provided by the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. These phones, donated for recycling by the community, allow users to summon help by making an immediate 911 contact if alarmed or confronted by someone violating an order of protection. There is no charge for placing a 911 call. Phones are available free of charge by calling the domestic/dating violence hotline at 542-0404 between the hours of 9 and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Widowed Persons Service The A.A.R.P is looking for volunteers to serve on a steering committee in western Nassau County. A group of interested widowed people and agencies is meeting to assist the newly widowed in their grief and to support them in rebuilding their lives with the help of the A.A.R.P. Defensive Driving Course Lynbrook residents over age 50 interested in taking the A.A.R.P. "55 Alive" course may put their names on a waiting list at the Lynbrook Library's reference desk. Mistreatment of the Elderly is a growing concern. If you are 60 and older and being hurt by someone who should be caring, the Coalition offers counseling, legal advocacy and other support services to senior citizens in need of help. For aid please call 542-0404.
Free Internet Workshop All District 19 (East Rockaway school district) senior citizens are invited to be a guest on the internet. A one-night workshop on how to surf the Internet will be provided free of charge. Feature Film Series 2001 The Malverne Public Library presents feature films once a month in the Colwell Room. Separate flyers will be available for each film. Microsoft Windows Class On Tuesday, May 8 and Thursday May 10, the library is offering a Microsoft Windows class from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration begins Saturday, April 28. The class is limited to 24 people.
Jewish Calcutta through music and memory is performed by Rahel Musleah on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. She is a journalist, author, singer, songwriter, storyteller and speaker who performs at synagogues, schools, libraries and cultural festivals. Registration begins on Wednesday, May 2.
Internet and E-mail class will be offered by the library. This lecture-based seminar will explain how to get online, find information, understand the jargon of the Internet, and send e-mail. Registration is ongoing.

Hollywood Scandals Film historian Seena Edelman presents a multi-media discussion of naughty doings during the Golden Age of motion pictures. The talk takes place on Thursday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m.
A Look at the Hunchback Literature scholar Algirdas Landsbergis will present a discussion on Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." The event takes place on Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Help for Battered Women The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence operates a safe home for battered mothers & their children, or for women who are victims of violent relationships.
