Art League presentation The Long Beach Art League will present a membership show entitled "Black and White" at the Long Beach Public Library through April 28. Refreshments will be served. No fee. For information call 432-7204.
Historical Society Sale The Long Beach Historical and Preservation Society will be holding a Tag and Plant Sale on Sunday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Museum, 226 W. Penn St. Donations of merchandise (no clothes) would be welcome and can be dropped off at the Museum on the date of the sale. For information,call 431-4489.
Thrift Shop. Temple Beth-El welcomes all comers to their Thrift Shop, featuring new and gently used merchandise. The Shop is open Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Teen Lounge Nights. The BACH, 210 Edwards Blvd., is hosting lounge nights every Monday, from 6:30-11:30 p.m. for all Jewish youths and teens. Ping pong, big screen TVs, and free bar mitzvah, math, SAT and Jewish studies tutoring are all available. For information, call 432-5909.

Nar-Anon The Nar-Anon Group is for you who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the drug addiction problem of someone near to you. Nar-Anon offers anonymous support, using first names only. Meetings are held every Friday evening in the West End Community Center at 8 p.m.
Alateen meetings Do you know a young person who has been affected by alcoholic drinking parents or friends? If so, participate in Alateen meetings every Thursday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the West End Community Center on Maryland Avenue. For information, call 889-2572 or 432-9440.
Alcohol screening Long Beach Medical Center's Family Alcoholism Counseling and Treatment Services (F.A.C.T..S.) will be screening for alcohol problems as part of National Alcohol Screening Day. The free screenings will be held Thursday, April 5 from 3-5 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. at the Long Beach Public Library. The program includes educational presentations, a self-assessment and one-on-one consultations with health professionals. For information, call 897-1250.
LB Breast Cancer Coalition's Lend A Helping Hand
On-going program that "lends a helping hand" to women from Long Beach and surrounding communities who are diagnosed with breast cancer and presently undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation. If you know someone who would be helped by this service, please have them call 897-1344.
Arthritis Support Group The Arthritis Support Group meets the third Tuesday of every month from March through December at 2 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium at Long Beach Medical Center to provide support to arthtitis sufferers. Call 897-1504 for more information.
Gamblers Anonymous Gamblers Anonymous, a self-help, free 12-step program for compulsive gamblers and those who think they have a problem meets every Wednesday at Temple Emanu-El at 8 P.M. Also available is Gamanon, a self-help group for family of compulsive gamblers. For information, call 641-0543.
Disabled adults support The St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary sponsors a monthly support group for men and women who are physically disabled. The support group meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 P.M., at the St. Charles Rehabilitation Network office at 201. I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Bereavement Support Group On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center's Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. Beginners meditation Wednesdays, 2-3 P.M. Lisa Wisel leads this group using stretching, music, imagery and breathing. Free to all seniors. For more information, call Joe Cavalieri at 431-3510.

Weekly Depression Screening Long Beach Medical Center's Counseling Center is offering free, weekly walk-in screenings for persons experiencing depression, Wednesdays from 2 to 3 PM. COMPEER volunteers sought Friendship is powerful medicine when you're isolated and recovering from mental illness. COMPEER volunteers have fun and spend a rewarding hour with a new friend. Humane Society The Long Beach Humane Society welcomes volunteers for fund-raising events, donations and socialization for abandonoed pets at the Long Beach Animal Shelter hoping for a home. Dogwalkers are welcome. Call 889-PETS.
Donate to soup kitchen The L.B. Food & Friendship I.N.N. is once again looking forward to the generous offering of food from our local residents, so that we can continue to offer a holiday basket to our less fortunate families. Long Beach Auxiliary Police A recruitment drive for the Auxiliary Police is currently underway. Since 1940, The Long Beach Auxiliary Police have assisted the regular police department, serving as extra eyes and ears on the Long Beach streets and helping with traffic and crowd control during local emergencies and special events. Volunteer at L.I. Crisis Center The Long Island Crisis Center, which provides a range of services to people in need including a 24/7 hotline service to youth and their families, has many positions available, including becoming a crisis intervention counselor.
