Special Events

Thrift Shop. Temple Beth-Ell of Long Beach welcomes all comers to their Thrift Shop, featuring new and gently used merchandise. Stocked with men''s and women's clothes, paper goods, furniture and used books, the Shop is open every Wednesday, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Enrichment. Registration is open for the 2001 Saturday Morning Enrichment Program. Classes are available that engage all interests: from cooking to cheerleading, book activities to tae kwon do. Love Songs
Long Beach Public Library presents "Harmony," Frances Tarantino and Mary Solitto, a husband and wife team, on Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. They will perform favorite old and new love songs in time for Valentine's Day.
Latin Jazz The Latin King of jazz will perform music from Jelly Roll to Carlos Santana at the Long Beach Public Library on Sunday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. Napolean Revels-Bey has performed with the likes of Cab Calloway, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Gregory Hines.
Oscar Micheaux Through film clips, author and activist Pearl Browser will examine both the African-American and mainstream social and political mileau surrounding the work of Oscar Micheaux, the pioneering novelist and screenwriter. Long Beach Public Library, Tuesday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m.
Pre-K Visitation. Blackheath Pre-Kindergarten will host a visitation program on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., and Feb. 2 from 1-2:00 p.m. All parents of children born between Dec. 1, 1996 and Nov. 30, 1997 are invited to attend.

Beach Breast Cancer Coalition Lend A Helping Hand
On-going program that "lends a helping hand" to women from Long Beach and surrounding communities who are diagnosed with breast cancer and presently undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation. If you know someone who would be helped by this service, please have them call 897-1344.
Gamblers Anonymous Gamblers Anonymous, a self-help, free 12-step program for compulsive gamblers and those who think they have a problem meets every Wednesday at Temple Emanu-El at 8 P.M. Also available is Gamanon, a self-help group for family of compulsive gamblers. For information, call 641-0543.
Disabled adults support The St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary sponsors a monthly support group for men and women who are physically disabled. The support group meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 P.M., at the St. Charles Rehabilitation Network office at 201. I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Bereavement Support Group On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center's Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. Weekly Depression Screening Long Beach Medical Center's Counseling Center is offering free, weekly walk-in screenings for persons experiencing depression, Wednesdays from 2 to 3 PM. COMPEER volunteers sought Friendship is powerful medicine when you're isolated and recovering from mental illness. COMPEER volunteers have fun and spend a rewarding hour with a new friend. Mercy Hospice Mercy Hospice is seeking volunteers in Nassau County who are available during day, evening or on weekends, to help patients and their families at home with emotional support, companionship and practical assistance. Call Lucille Bruntvedt, Volunteer Coordinator, at 485-3060.
Donate to soup kitchen The L.B. Food & Friendship I.N.N. is once again looking forward to the generous offering of food from our local residents, so that we can continue to offer a holiday basket to our less fortunate families. Long Beach Auxiliary Police A recruitment drive for the Auxiliary Police is currently underway. Since 1940, The Long Beach Auxiliary Police have assisted the regular police department, serving as extra eyes and ears on the Long Beach streets and helping with traffic and crowd control during local emergencies and special events.
