Community events



Intramural soccer.The Rockville Centre Soccer Club along with NOGA Soccer will present a series of indoor intramural development programs at Hewitt School, located at 446 DeMott Avenue. Kids in grades one through five are eligible. Registration forms are available at the Rec Center.

Saturdays, beginning in December

'Just for the kids' fund raising Christmas party to be held in honor of Loretta Evers at MacArthur Park Restaurant. Sponsored by Murphy Construction. Donations $10. Complimentary buffet, D.J. and dancing featured. Raffles and prizes. Proceeds will go to the Connors family.

Sunday, Dec. 17, 4 P.M.

Community Chanukah Menorah lighting, for Temple B'nai Sholom and Central Synagogue. The ceremony will take place at Temple B'nai Sholom, 1000 Hempstead Ave.

Thursday, Dec. 21: 5:30 PM

Party planning seminar at Temple Avodah Ballroom, 3050 Oceanside Road, Oceanside. Will feature everything for any celebration. Free admission.

Breakfast with Santa's helpers. Join Santa and his friends for a festive breakfast at the Rec Center. $4 fee per person and all participants must register by Dec. 15.Seatings are at 9:15, 10:30 and 11:15.

Chanukah party. The National Council of Jewish Women and the Recreational Department will co-sponsor the annual party. All faiths are invited. The party starts at 4 PM for pre-kindergartners to second graders.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

Holiday Recess Special Events:

Ice skating trip to Long Beach Recreation Complex for grades 1-8. Bus leaves at 2:15 PM and returns at 5:45 PM.

Tuesday, Dec. 26

Trip to Fun Zone in Farmingdale, for grades 6-6. Trip includes 35 game tokens and unlimited rides. Bus leaves at 12:30 PM and returns approximately 4:15 PM.

Wed. Dec. 27

Seventh annual Holiday Games. All 1-5 graders are invited to a day of nok-hockey, basketball shooting and alligator pit. Grades 1-2 meet from noon to 1:30 PM. Grades 3-5 meet from 1:30 to 3 PM. No fee. Register by Dec. 26.

Thursday, Dec. 28

Holiday craft activity. Kids K-through-4 are invited to be crafty and enjoy a cup of holiday hot chocolate. Two sessions: 10:30 AM to 11:4 or 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM. $7 per person.

Friday, Dec. 29

Bowling at RVC Lanes for children in grades 1-8. Bumper bowling for 1st graders. Snack bar will be open. Grades 1 and 2: 12-2:30. Third grade and up: 12:30 to 3 PM.

At the Libraries



RVC Public Library...

Shadowboxes. Miniature settings created by artists Lydia Paulsen will be on display in the main floor display cases of the Rockville Centre Public Library through December. The exhibit includes shadowboxes of rooms, houses and an old curiosity shop filled with realistic replicas of furniture, toys, food and other household items. Ms. Paulsen is a professional art teacher and painter whose work has been exhibited frequently on Long Island. She is also a board member of the Village Art Club.

Throughout December

Photographs by Lynn David Nathanson will be showcased by the Rockville Centre Public Library from Dec. 8 through January. Ms. Nathanson's award-winning photographs will be displayed downstairs in the library.

Computer fundamentals.The Rockville Centre Public Library is currently registering residents of the RVC School. A desktop publishing segment will offer instruction on using a digital camera, scanner and graphics programs. A $50 non-refundable fee is required and registration is limited.
