Community events
Intramural soccer.The Rockville Centre Soccer Club along with NOGA Soccer will present a series of indoor intramural development programs at Hewitt School, located at 446 DeMott Avenue. Kids in grades one through five are eligible. Registration forms are available at the Rec Center.
Saturdays, beginning in December
A salute to Pearl Harbor heroes. The American Legion Post 303 will host a day of remembrance at the Legion Hall and at Mill River Park. Bands from the Marines, Army, Navy and South Side High School will join in a ceremony at the park after offee and rolls willare served starting at 9 AM at the Legion Hall.

The Rockville Centre Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, an international self-help support group for families grieving the death of a child, will join together in lighting candles at Robert E. Purick Pocket Park, on the corner of Merrick Avenue and West Loines Ave., in Merrick. The worldwide candle lighting event brings tens of thousands of families, united in grief, together on the second Sunday in December.

The Rockville Centre Christian Singles will hold their next regular monthly meeting in the basement meeting room of St. Agnes Rectory. New members (21-plus) are cordially invited. A wide variety of activities on the winter calendar will be reviewed and discussed. Social to follow.

Trip to Fun Zone in Farmingdale, for grades 6-6. Trip includes 35 game tokens and unlimited rides. Bus leaves at 12:30 PM and returns approximately 4:15 PM.
Wed. Dec. 27
Seventh annual Holiday Games. All 1-5 graders are invited to a day of nok-hockey, basketball shooting and alligator pit. Grades 1-2 meet from noon to 1:30 PM. Grades 3-5 meet from 1:30 to 3 PM. No fee. Register by Dec. 26.

Holiday craft activity. Kids K-through-4 are invited to be crafty and enjoy a cup of holiday hot chocolate. Two sessions: 10:30 AM to 11:4 or 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM. $7 per person.

Shadowboxes. Miniature settings created by artists Lydia Paulsen will be on display in the main floor display cases of the Rockville Centre Public Library through December. The exhibit includes shadowboxes of rooms, houses and an old curiosity shop filled with realistic replicas of furniture, toys, food and other household items. Ms. Paulsen is a professional art teacher and painter whose work has been exhibited frequently on Long Island. She isalso a board member of the Village Art Club.

Computer fundamentals.The Rockville Centre Public Library is currently registering residents of the RVC School. A desktop publishing segment will offer instruction on using a digital camera, scanner and graphics programs. A $50 non-refundable fee is required and registration is limited.

The Nutcracker. The Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and Leggz Ltd. Dance present the full-length ballet production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, featuring live music performed by the 60-member South Shore Symphony. The shows will be performed at the South Side High School Auditorium, located at 140 Shepherd Street. Maple Avenue Dance's 4th annual holiday showcase, featuring The Nutcracker, a hip-hop, jazz and modern dance revue, and Phat Cat Records singing sensation Jesika will perform her new single "Tonight,"in a special production with the children of Maple Avenue Dance.
