Annual Craft Fair

The Point Lookout Community Church's annual Craft Fair , featuring barter tables, door prizes, quilts and baked goods, will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 1 to 4PM on Freeport Avenue.

Blanket/Coat Drive

A blanket and coat drive will be held December 4, 6 from 9AM-3PM at Long Beach Catholic School. All donations of coats, blankets, gloves, hats, etc., will be given to the Long Beach Soup Kitchen. For information, call 432-9440.

Painting Demonstration

The Long Beach Art League presents a Charles Robertson Encaustic Painting Demonstration at the Long Beach Public Library on Wednesday, December 6, 7:30PM. Refreshments will be served.

Long Beach Breast Cancer Coalition Annual Holiday Party

Friday, December 1 at 7 P.M. the Annual Holiday Party in the Dining Room at the Long Beach Medical Center, lower level, $10 per person. Call 897-1344 for more information.

Holiday Celebration

The Long Beach Historical Society Museum hosts a holiday season celebration on Sunday, December 6 from 2-6 PM, featuring vendors, sing-alongs, and Santa. A $5 donation is asked per adult. For information, call 432-1192.

St. Ignatius Advent Mission

St. Ignatius Martyr Church will hold an advent mission on December 4, 5 and 6. Mass be conducted at 9 AM and 7:30 PM. On Monday, December 4, the subject will be "Living in the Embrace of God's Love," Tuesday's will be "Forgiveness as the Path to Peace," and Wednesday's will be "Healing the Human Heart."

Beach Breast Cancer Coalition Lend A Helping Hand

On-going program that "lends a helping hand" to women from Long Beach and surrounding communities who are diagnosed with breast cancer and presently undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation. If you know someone who would be helped by this service, please have them call 897-1344.

Gamblers Anonymous

Gamblers Anonymous, a self-help, free 12-step program for compulsive gamblers and those who think they have a problem meets every Wednesday at Temple Emanu-El at 8 PM. Also available is Gamanon, a self-help group for family of compulsive gamblers. For information, call 641-0543.

Disabled adults support. The St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary sponsors a monthly support group for men and women who are physically disabled. The support group meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 P.M., at the St. Charles Rehabilitation Network office at 201. I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Bereavement Support Group. On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center's Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. This free support group will be led by a mental health professional. For more information, call The Counseling Center at (516) 897-1270.

Beginners meditation. Wednesdays, 2-3 P.M. Lisa Wisel leads this group using stretching, music, imagery and breathing. Free to all seniors. For more information, call Joe Cavalieri at 431-3510.

Weekly Depression Screening Long Beach Medical Center's Counseling Center is offering free, weekly walk-in screenings for persons experiencing depression, Wednesdays from 2 to 3 PM. Includes an interview with a mental health professional. Pre-registration is not required. For information, call The Counseling Center at 897-1270.

Volunteer!



COMPEER volunteers sought. Friendship is powerful medicine when you're isolated and recovering from mental illness. COMPEER volunteers have fun and spend a rewarding hour with a new friend. Training is provided and a year's commitment is requested. Call the Mental Health Association of Nassau County at 489-2322 ext. 121 to apply.

Mercy Hospice. Mercy Hospice is seeking volunteers in Nassau County who are available during day, evening or on weekends, to help patients and their families at home with emotional support, companionship and practical assistance. Call Lucille Bruntvedt, Volunteer Coordinator, at 485-3060.

Donate to soup kitchen. The L.B. Food & Friendship I.N.N. is once again looking forward to the generous offering of food from our local residents, so that we can continue to offer a holiday basket to our less fortunate families. Long Beach Auxiliary Police. A recruitment drive for the Auxiliary Police is currently underway. Since 1940, The Long Beach Auxiliary Police have assisted the regular police department, serving as extra eyes and ears on the Long Beach streets and helping with traffic and crowd control during local emergencies and special events. Volunteer for C.U.R.B.

Volunteers are needed by Citizens United to Remove Barriers (CURB) to help construct ramps for the disabled. Call 889-6579.

Volunteer at L.I. Crisis Center. The Long Island Crisis Center, which provides a range of services to people in need including a 24/7 hotline service to youth and their families, has many positions available, including becoming a crisis intervention counselor. Help stop hunger, waste. Island Harvest, Long Island's Food Rescue Organization, invites you to volunteer. Island Harvest's mission is to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.
