The Village Art Club is pleased to present accomplished artist and instructor John Collins, who will demonstrate the technique of painting a "Harbor Scene" in oil.The Art Club meets at the Rockville Centre Library, located at 221 N. The Rockville Centre Choral Society is performing its annual holiday concert at the St. James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook. The choral society has performed at many village functions, as well as local senior centers and houses of worship in surrounding communities. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. The Nutcracker. The Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and Leggz Ltd. Dance present the full-length ballet production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, featuring live music performed by the 60-member South Shore Symphony. The Rockville Centre Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, an international self-help support group for families grieving the death of a child, will join together in lighting candles at Robert E. Purick Pocket Park, on the corner of Merrick Avenue and West Loines Ave., in Merrick. The worldwide candle lighting event brings tens of thousands of families, united in grief, together on the second Sunday in December.

Photography by Trisha Small will be showcased during the month of November at the library's lower level. Ms. Small is a Long Island kindergarten teacher and a self-taught artist. Her travels around the globe have inspired her to capture unique cultural experiences. Her subject matter ranges from still life landscapes to contemporary portraiture.

Stained glass exhibit. Stained glass artist Bill Hergenrother will display his work at the Rockville Centre Public Library. A recently retired engineer, Mr. Hengenrother's retirement afforded him the opportunity to pursue his long interest in stained glass art.

Computer fundamentals.The Rockville Centre Public Library is currently registering residents of the RVC School. A desktop publishing segment will offer instruction on using a digital camera, scanner and graphics programs. A $50 non-refundable fee is required and registration is limited.

Lecture. Long Island author Steven E. Danish will be present at the library for a lecture and discussion of his critically-acclaimed book about his father's experiences during World War II, "One Soldier's Memories: World War II." The powerful chronicle offers a unique and graphic testimonial filled with humor, torment and triumph. A book sale and signing will follow.
