Health Assessment.There will be a health assessment with June Friedel, R.N. every first Tuesday of the month at 10 A.M. in the Five Towns Senior Center. This complete one-on-one health assessment includes blood pressure, drug compatibility and discussion about your health concerns in total privacy. It's sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs.

Shooting Survivor Speaks. The Physically Disabled Singles Group of the Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA will be hosting an Evening of Inspiration featuring guest speaker, Detective Steven McDonald. He survived a serious gunshot wound and faces the daily challenges of physical disability. Detective McDonald now devotes his energy to sharing his message of forgiveness and reconciliation. The Rock Hall Museum, 199 Broadway in Lawrence, will hold its 15th annual country fair on Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, from 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. Come and enjoy the following activities: Revolutionary War Encampment, a country band and animal farm, crafts, historical theater, harvest market and jugglers. Make your own scarecrow, too. Enjoy food, blacksmith, spinning demonstrations and more. All proceeds to benefit the Friends of Rock Hall.
Stories by the Fireside- Sarah, Plain and Tall-will be told at Rock Hall Museum, 199 Broadway in Lawrence, on Saturday, November 4, from 10:30 A.M. to noon. It is for girls, ages 7 to 11, who love the adventure of reading and to listen to stories in the parlor at historic Rock Hall. Space is limited. The fee is $3.50 per session.
Coats For Kids. Do you have a winter coat you don't use? Are you cleaning out your closets? Don't throw them out. Flu Shots. The Five Towns Senior Center, located at 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere, is pleased to announce that flu shots will be given at the center on Wednesday, October 11, from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. to members of the community aged 65 and over. There is no out-of-pocket expense for this immunization. Senior citizens who wish to participate must register at the center and fill out a medical history form, after which they will be given an appointment.

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library offers 55 Alive/

H-W Library Art Gallery. Paintings by Jack Nodiff will be on display in the gallery of the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library from Saturday, September 9, through Thursday, October 26. Mr. Nodiff, a resident of East Rockaway, received degrees from New York University and Long Island University. He is listed in "Who's Who in American Art." Mr. Nodiff also studied art at the Brooklyn Museum, Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation and The Art Students League. His paintings are primarily representational, specializing in beach scenes, seascapes and landscapes. His works have appeared at the Salmagundi Club as well as in many museums and galleries. Library offers Flu Shot. The Peninsula Public Library will once again offer Flu and/or Pneumonia shots to seniors (60 years or older) at NO OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. Registration at the library will be on Tuesday, October 3, from 9 A.M.-11 A.M. and in the evening from 6 P.M.-8 P.M. You must register to receive the shot. The inoculations will be administered at the library on Tuesday, October 10, 9 A.M.-12 noon under the supervision of licensed nurses, staff members of Nassau County Medical Center. As a community service, Peninsula Public Library, the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizens Affairs, in cooperation with the Nassau County Medical Center, are sponsoring this No Out Of Pocket Expense Immunization Program. Super Sukkah Soiree. The Lailah Group of Woodmere Hadassah will feature Bluma Feinstein at its annual Super Sukkah Sioree. This event will be held on Monday, October 16 at 7:45 P.M. in a local home. Nassau Region of Hadassah's Ivrit L'Hadassah classes, which teach Hebrew literacy and conversation, are continuing in the Five Towns. Dr. Annette Labovitz, Ph.D, is presenting an advanced course on Monday mornings at Temple Beth El in Cedarhurst and Ferne Skiba is teaching an intermediate course at the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Center. Torah Seminars for Women. Bereavement Group. The Greater Five Towns YM and YWHA will be offering a Bereavement Group starting Tuesday, July 11, at 2 P.M. The objective of this six-week group is to provide support for the recently bereaved in a caring and warm atmosphere. There will be the opportunity to work through grief, examine feelings and discover inner strengths. This group will be held at the Greater Five Towns YM and YWHA, located at 207 Grove Avenue, Cedarhurst. A $40 pre-registration fee is required. For more info call 569-6733.
Chesed Organization. Kesher is a local youth-based chesed organization developed to promote acts of kindness in the community. They are currently collecting items in new or like new condition to distribute to those in need. Tax receipts are available upon request for all donations made. Temple Hillel Sisterhood will collect non-perishable, kosher food for distribution to hungry children and families. Everything from peanut butter and pasta to tuna and toaster pastry is needed and will be picked up weekly by United Jewish Appeal for distribution to needy families. The program began on Monday, September 18 and will continue every Monday and Tuesday during Hebrew School hours, 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. YM & YWHA Programs. The Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA is happy to announce some wonderful programs for retired, enthusiastic adults. Shalom Club meets every Monday at 1 P.M. at the "Y," 207 Grove Avenue, Cedarhurst. The group begins with a Stretch and Flex Class followed by a wide variety of wonderful and informative programs. Golden Circle meets every Tuesday at 12 P.M. at Temple Beth El, Broadway and Locust, in Cedarhurst. Starting with refreshments and light exercise, this group always has interesting lectures or entertainment for all to enjoy.

The Five Towns Senior Center. Every Wednesday at 10 A.M. there will be a Drama Discussion led by Harold Engel. Every Thursday at 10 A.M. there will be a singing group led by Ruth Shuster. Basic Bridge Instruction will be on Wednesdays at 12:45 P.M. and led by Diane Goldstein.
5T Senior Center Classes. "Low Impact Exercise" will now be held on Friday mornings at 10 A.M., beginning September 8. Miriam Sharin returns on Tuesdays in September at 10 A.M. for her famous "Israeli Folk and Line Dance" class. "Mixed Media Painting" with Estelle Ginsburg will continue in September on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 A.M. "Beginning Drawing and Painting" with Jayne Saint Armour will begin on Monday, September 1, at 12:45 P.M. Beginners are welcome. "Bingo with Rosalie" join the fun Thursday mornings at 10 A.M., beginning September 7.

Parkinson's Support Group Foundation of Long Island, Inc., in cooperation with the Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA, has formed "Tuesday Activity Center," a group for individuals suffering from Parkinson's disease and their spouses and families, at the " Y," 207 Grove Avenue in Cedarhurst, from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. Peninsula Counseling Center is offering a new program for adults with severe physical disabilities. "Out and About" brings physically disabled adults together on Thursdays for three hours of socializing, sharing ideas and discussion of a variety of topics. The group, which meets weekly at Temple Emanu-El in Lynbrook, is looking for new members as well as guest speakers.

Bridge Committee Applicants. The Hewlett-Woodmere School District Bridge Committee is presently seeking applicants who are interested in serving on its board. The committee's sole purpose is to reach out to all the members of the community and to encourage participation in the acquisition of knowledge of the present work and future plans of the District 14 school system. There are presently three available openings on the board. Members are chosen to represent the diverse population of the community. If you are interested in serving on the board, please send a letter of your interest to the Bridge Committee, at One Johnson Place, Woodmere. Include some personal background data to help the committee with its selection. Letters of application must be submitted by August 15 and new members will be contacted in the Fall. All others letters will be filed for future use when openings become available.
