Arts, Music & Theater



Musical: "Phantom," produced by The Gray Wig players at Hofstra University's John Cranford Adams Playhouse. Phantom features RVC resident Craig Woythaler. Tickets are $22, $20 for seniors and non-Hofstra students; all proceeds benefit Hofstra scholarships.

Community events



Fine arts & crafts sale will be held at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 200 Hempstead Avenue. $1 for adults over 16. Free raffle. Refreshments for sale.Hand crafts including: decoys, jewelry, woodworking and paintings, Irish photos, bird houses and pottery.

Golf classic to benefit Ascent, a school for individuals with autism, will take place at the Rockville Link.The event will kick of with a Classic Breakfast immediately followed by golf. Cocktails will be served in the late afternoon and a dinner and auction/awards ceremony will conclude the day's activities.

Marriage seminar at the Vineyard Church, 251 Merrick Road in RVC. "Building a Marriage that Lasts" is a practical seminar of hope and healing for husbands and wives with Don and Nancy Anderson.Topics include: renewing your visions; keys to deeper unity; and dealing with fear and hurt, among others. $25 for individuals $25; $35 for married couples.

Duck race and fall fesrtival, sponsored by the RVC Lions Club, will be held at Centennial Park. Activities will include amusement rides, face painting, craft vendors, pumpkin painting, petting zoo, hay ride, food, prizes and more!

Halloween window painting contest for boys and girls in grades 4-8. Halloween themes will be painted on paper that is taped to store windows throughout Rockville Centre. Plaques will be awarded for the best paintings. Register at the Rec Center BEFORE October 13. In case of rain, the contest will be held indoors, at the Rec Center.

Art Exhibition.The artwork of Adele Kraetz, a former Sandel staff member. Ms. Kraetz' body of work is largely figurative and has appeared in a number of juried art shows. She has been awarded several prize ribbons.

Bridge lessons will be given at the start of the center's fall schedule. Linda Pickens, an experienced and lively bridge instructor is known for her enthusiastic and fun teaching style. Take this opportunity to brush up on techniques and renew old skills. Educational materials are provided.

Film: "Anna and the King," will be shown as part of the Sunday Cinema Series. The film will be shown on the Center's 60" TV.

Storycrafts for grades 1-3. In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, the September storycraft will celebrate a culture rich in customs and traditions.

Monday, September 25: 4 PM

Mothers/daughters book discussion. Each month a book is read and shared by girls in grades 4, 5 and 6 and their moms. A lively discussion takes place in a relaxed atmosphere with light refreshments. September's title is "Alice Rose & Sam," by Kathryn at the circulation desk.

Tuesday, September 26: 7 PM

Code to Victory, a fascinating and memorable lecture with World War II Crptanalyst and author, Arnold Franco. Trained by British intelligence to intercept and break coded messages sent by German pilots, this former RVC residentsaw duty directly after the Normandy invasion.

Tuesday, Septebmer 26: 7 PM

Parent/child workshop. For parents and children ages 1-3. Siblings up to age 5 are also welcome. Play together, create a craft together, and meet new people in a creative environment.

Registration begins 9/27 for October programs

Creative movement for you and your child. A nationally-certified dance/fitness instructor and educator, will lead a series of programs that explore ways you and your child can have fun together and feel good through movement and music.
