5T Senior Center. There will be a Five Towns Senior Center General Meeting on Wednesday, September 13, at 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. At 6:30 P.M. there will be a group coping session led by Helen Murello, M.S.R., N.C.S. At 7:30 refreshments will be served. At 7:45, the meeting will begin.

Assemblyman honored. The National Council of Jewish Women, Peninsula Section, will honor State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg with the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award on November 1, at the Woodmere Club on Meadow Dr.

Health Assessment.There will be a health assessment with June Friedel, R.N. every first Tuesday of the month at 10 A.M. in the Five Towns Senior Center. This complete one-on-one health assessment includes blood pressure, drug compatibility and discussion about your health concerns in total privacy. It's sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs.

Long Beach Sewer District. There will be a regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the West Long Beach Sewer District at 6 P.M. on September 19, in the Board Room, Board of Commissioners, 2150 Bay Boulevard, Atlantic Beach.

Meeting to discuss County Finances. Nassau County's fiscal recovery plan will be the topic of discussion during the Monday, September 18, Town Meeting sponsored by Nassau County Legislator Jeff Toback (D-Oceanside) The legislative update, to be held in the Gold Hall of the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, 1125 Broadway, Hewlett, beginning 7:30 P.M., will feature guest speaker Mark Young, finance director for the Legislative Majority. Israel Ambassador to speak. The Woodmere Chapter of Hadassah will feature an Israel Update by Israel's Deputy Consul General, Ambassador Yosef Livne, during the first open meeting of its current fiscal year. The event will take place at the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre on Tuesday, September 19. The day's activity will begin at 11:30 A.M. with a light lunch. The meeting will follow at 12:30 P.M. Ambassador Livne has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Tel Aviv University, where he also took graduate courses in International Relations. He recently earned his Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Haifa, specializing in Israel's national security. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977 and has served in both Central and South America.

Coats For Kids. Do you have a winter coat you don't use? Are you cleaning out your closets? Don't throw them out. Keep a child warm this winter by donating unwanted children's coats at: Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg's office, 20 West Park Avenue, Long Beach. Call 431-0500. Office hours 9 A.M.-5 P.M. All coats collected will be dry cleaned free of charge by: Delta Cleaners, 83 East Park Ave., Long Beach, and forwarded to "Coats for Kids" for distribution to needy families. Deadline: October 1.

Yard Sale. The St. Paul's United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale on Saturday, September 16, beginning at 9 A.M. at the church, Lord Avenue in Inwood, across from Meserole Funeral Home.

Antiques Roadshow Primer. On Saturday evening, September 16, the Friends of Rock Hall invite all collectors to meet a distinguished guest speaker, Carol Prisant, author of "Antique Roadshow Primer," an introductory on PBS. Also an appraiser of fine and decorative arts, Ms. Prisant will talk about the expertise, passion, and adventure in uncovering a treasure. A perfect opportunity to ask the expert questions about that old chest filled with memorabilia in the attic! This event will begin at 8 P.M. and since seating is limited, please RSVP as soon as possible. There will be a book signing and refreshments will be served. Appraisal Day. On Sunday, September 17, a special appraisal event, sponsored by the Friends of Rock Hall, will give each individual an opportunity to meet one-on-one with three specialists from the prestigious Phillips Auctioneers, the world's largest auction house. For a donation of $10 an item, each person will receive a verbal evaluation of heirlooms and treasures. Membership fee is $8 an item. Limited to three items, categories include paintings, furniture, jewelry and decorative arts. The proceeds will benefit the Friends of Rock Hall Museum, located at 199 Broadway in Lawrence. Voter Registration. Peninsula Section of National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, and Five Towns Jewish Council began a cooperative voter registration drive on August 16. It is essential that all eligible people register and vote. Documents proving eligibility (i.e.18 years of age by Election Day, and American Citizen) are required. People who will be away on Election Day and students attending out of town colleges who won't be coming home that day will need absentee ballots which will be available during this time. Flu Shots. The Five Towns Senior Center, located at 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere, is pleased to announce that flu shots will be given at the center on Wednesday, October 11, from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. to members of the community aged 65 and over. There is no out-of-pocket expense for this immunization. Senior citizens who wish to participate must register at the center and fill out a medical history form, after which they will be given an appointment.

Library News

Women's Movement Discussion. Meet author Bonnie S. Anderson at the discussion of her book, "The First International Women's Movement, 1830-1860" on Friday, September 15, at 10 A.M. at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library. Even in its nascent stages during the 19th century, the feminist movement transcended national borders. Ms. Anderson's study of the early development spans three decades, beginning in 1830. Ms. Anderson is a professor at Brooklyn College.

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library offers 55 Alive/mature driving courses on an on-going basis to residents of School District 14. For courses and registration dates, call the library at 374-1967.

Paul Gauguin discussion. Art historian Carol Dubs' colorful and exciting slides will illuminate the lives and works of Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh, focusing on the period that the artists worked together. On the Web.There will be a lecture demonstration on Thursday, September 14 10:30 A.M. or 2 P.M. in the Boehm Meeting Room on the library web site. It also gives you access to the on-line library catalog and dozens of databases. H-W Library Art Gallery. Paintings by Jack Nodiff will be on display in the gallery of the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library from Saturday, September 9, through Thursday, October 26. Mr. Nodiff, a resident of East Rockaway, received degrees from New York University and Long Island University. He is listed in "Who's Who in American Art." Mr. Nodiff also studied art at the Brooklyn Museum, Five Towns Music and Arts Foundation and The Art Students League. His paintings are primarily representational, specializing in beach scenes, seascapes and landscapes. His works have appeared at the Salmagundi Club as well as in many museums and galleries. Library offers Flu Shot. The Peninsula Public Library will once again offer Flu and/or Pneumonia shots to seniors (60 years or older) at NO OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. Registration at the library will be on Tuesday, October 3, from 9 A.M.-11 A.M. and in the evening from 6 P.M.-8 P.M. You must register to receive the shot. The inoculations will be administered at the library on Tuesday, October 10, 9 A.M.-12 noon under the supervision of licensed nurses, staff members of Nassau County Medical Center. As a community service, Peninsula Public Library, the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizens Affairs, in cooperation with the Nassau County Medical Center, are sponsoring this No Out Of Pocket Expense Immunization Program. Torah Seminars for Women. L.I.C.C. Training. Long Island Crisis Center is looking for volunteers. L..I.C.C. offers a 24/7 hotline, internet counseling seven days a week, 2 P.M. to 11 P.M. Call to set up an interview at 826-0244.

Bereavement Group. The Greater Five Towns YM and YWHA will be offering a Bereavement Group starting Tuesday, July 11, at 2 P.M. The objective of this six-week group is to provide support for the recently bereaved in a caring and warm atmosphere. There will be the opportunity to work through grief, examine feelings and discover inner strengths. This group will be held at the Greater Five Towns YM and YWHA, located at 207 Grove Avenue, Cedarhurst. A $40 pre-registration fee is required. For more info call 569-6733.

Chesed Organization. Kesher is a local youth-based chesed organization developed to promote acts of kindness in the community. They are currently collecting items in new or like new condition to distribute to those in need. Tax receipts are available upon request for all donations made. YM & YWHA Programs. The Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA is happy to announce some wonderful programs for retired, enthusiastic adults. Shalom Club meets every Monday at 1 P.M. at the "Y," 207 Grove Avenue, Cedarhurst. The group begins with a Stretch and Flex Class followed by a wide variety of wonderful and informative programs. Golden Circle meets every Tuesday at 12 P.M. at Temple Beth El, Broadway and Locust, in Cedarhurst. Starting with refreshments and light exercise, this group always has interesting lectures or entertainment for all to enjoy.

The Five Towns Senior Center. Every Wednesday at 10 A.M. there will be a Drama Discussion led by Harold Engel. Every Thursday at 10 A.M. there will be a singing group led by Ruth Shuster. Basic Bridge Instruction will be on Wednesdays at 12:45 P.M. and led by Diane Goldstein.

5T Senior Center Classes. "Low Impact Exercise" will now be held on Friday mornings at 10 A.M., beginning September 8. Miriam Sharin returns on Tuesdays in September at 10 A.M. for her famous "Israeli Folk and Line Dance" class. "Mixed Media Painting" with Estelle Ginsburg will continue in September on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 A.M. "Beginning Drawing and Painting" with Jayne Saint Armour will begin on Monday, September 1, at 12:45 P.M. Beginners are welcome. "Bingo with Rosalie" join the fun Thursday mornings at 10 A.M., beginning September 7.

The Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA is beginning its fall programs for retired adults. Peninsula Counseling Center is offering a new program for adults with severe physical disabilities. "Out and About" brings physically disabled adults together on Thursdays for three hours of socializing, sharing ideas and discussion of a variety of topics. The group, which meets weekly at Temple Emanu-El in Lynbrook, is looking for new members as well as guest speakers.

Bridge Committee Applicants. The Hewlett-Woodmere School District Bridge Committee is presently seeking applicants who are interested in serving on its board. The committee's sole purpose is to reach out to all the members of the community and to encourage participation in the acquisition of knowledge of the present work and future plans of the District 14 school system. There are presently three available openings on the board. Members are chosen to represent the diverse population of the community. If you are interested in serving on the board, please send a letter of your interest to the Bridge Committee, at One Johnson Place, Woodmere. Include some personal background data to help the committee with its selection. Letters of application must be submitted by August 15 and new members will be contacted in the Fall. All others letters will be filed for future use when openings become available.

Stretch and Flex Class. The Greater Five Towns YM & YWHA will host a Summer Friendship Circle, starting Monday, July 10, at 11 A.M. The six-week group will begin with a Stretch and Flex Class followed by a bring your own brown bag lunch and socialize, then conclude with lectures on contemporary life issues.
