Carnival and health fair to be hosted by South Nassau Communities Hospital of Merrick Road in Oceanside on Saturday, September 16 from 11A.M. to 4 P.M.

Oceanside Chorale is looking for new members for its December Concert Winter Serenade. Rehearsals begin Wednesday, September 6 at 8 P.M. at Merle Avenue School, Merle Avenue and Oceanside Road. Call (516) 223-6120.

Octoberfest Fair to be held by the Oceanside Lutheran Church, 62 Davison Avenue, on September 23 from 10A.M. to 4 P.M. Food, music, crafts, attic treasures, baked goods, games and much more. Rain or shine.

Fine arts & crafts sale will be held at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 200 Hempstead Avenue on Saturday, from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., and Sunday, from Noon to 5 P.M., September 23 and 24. Admission: $1 for adults over 16. Free raffle. Refreshments for sale. All items for sale will be hand crafted including: decoys, jewelry, woodworking and paintings, Irish photos, bird houses, and pottery.

Harvest Festival to be held by the St. John's Lutheran Church on the triangle of Merrick Road, Peninsula Boulevard and Blake Avenue in Lynbrook on Sunday, October 1 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M.

Children's Health Insurance. Representatives from New York State's Health Insurance Program are currently visiting St. Anthony's Parish Center, 110 Anchor Avenue in Oceanside, Tuesdays from 10 AM-noon; Wednesdays from 2-4 PM; and Saturdays from 10 AM-noon.

Sign language classes offered by Catholic Charities for persons with disabilities. Classes for both beginners and intermediate levels begin Thursday, September 28 and run for 10 weeks to December 7 at St. William the Abbott School, 2000 Jackson Avenue, Seaford. Fee is $60. Current Issues lectures to be led by commentator Barbara Krupit on Wednesdays, September 13 and October 18 at 1:30 P.M. Admission is free.

Exhibit: "Around the World," is a series of photographs by Freeport resident Budd Sasloff will be displayed throughout August and September. An avid traveler, Mr. Sasloff has photographed landscapes and street scenes from "Hong Kong Harbor," "Louisiana Bayou," and "Quebec City." The show is on view in the lower level art gallery.

Ongoing Career Counseling. Individual consultations with career counselor Judith Albert are available at the library. Ms. Albert provides strategies for approaching the current job market and offers assistance with resume writing,interview techniques, salary negotiations and more. Call 766-2360 for further details.

Art Exhibition.The artwork of Adele Kraetz, a former Sandel staff member. Ms. Kraetz' body of work is largely figurative and has appeared in a number of juried art shows. She has been awarded several prize ribbons. Interested members of the community are invited to meet the artist, view her artwork and listen to a discussion of her work at a reception to be held on 9/17 at 2-4 P.M.

Bridge lessons will be given at the start of the center's fall schedule. Linda Pickens, an experienced and lively bridge instructor is known for her enthusiastic and fun teaching style. Take this opportunity to brush up on techniques and renew old skills. Educational materials are provided.

Men's club monthly meeting will feature guest speaker, Lawrence Levy, in September. Mr. Levy is a member of Newsday's editorial board and an award winning columnist in the paper's Viewpoints section. His weekly column focuses on local and state politics and suburban issues, particularly those affecting the poor and children.

'The Mousetrap,' a classic murder mystery by Agatha Christie to be performed at the Barry and Florence Friedberg South Shore Y/JCC by the Long Beach Theater Guild on Sunday, September17 at 2 P.M

Musical: Phantom, produced by The Gray Wig players at Hofstra University's John Cranford Adams Playhouse. Phantom features RVC resident Craig Woythaler. Tickets are $22, $20 for seniors and non-Hofstra students; all proceeds benefit Hofstra scholarships.
