Disabled adults support. September 14 next meeting. The St. Charles Hospital and Rehabiliation Center Auxiliary sponsors a monthly support group for men and women who are physically disabled. The support group meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 1-2:30 P.M., at the St. Charles Rehabilitation Network office at 201. I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. Bereavement Support Group. On Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. in Conference Room C at Long Beach Medical Center. The Medical Center's Counseling Center will offer a weekly bereavement support group for individuals dealing with the death of a family member or loved one. This free support group will be led by a mental health professional. For more information, call The Counseling Center at (516) 897-1270.

Beginners meditation. Wednesdays, 2-3 P.M. Lisa Wisel leads this group using stretching, music, imagery and breathing. Free to all seniors. For more information, call Joe Cavalieri at 431-3510.

Weekly Depression Screening Long Beach Medical Center's Counseling Center is offering free, weekly walk-in screenings for persons experiencing depression. The screenings will be held on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 P.M. and include an interview with a mental health professional. Pre-registration is not required. Volunteer!



COMPEER volunteers sought. Friendship is powerful medicine when you're isolated and recovering from mental illness. COMPEER volunteers have fun and spend a rewarding hour with a new friend. Training is provided and a year's commitment is requested. Call the Mental Health Association of Nassau County at 489-2322 ext. 121 to apply.

Mercy Hospice. Mercy Hospice is seeking volunteers in Nassau County who are available during day, evening or on weekends, to help patients and their families at home with emotional support, companionship and practical assistance. Donate to soup kitchen. The L.B. Food & Friendship I.N.N. is once again looking forward to the generous offering of food from our local residents, so that we can continue to offer a holiday basket to our less fortunate families. Long Beach Auxiliary Police. A recruitment drive for the Auxiliary Police is currently underway. Since 1940, The Long Beach Auxiliary Police have assisted the regular police department, serving as extra eyes and ears on the Long Beach streets and helping with traffic and crowd control during local emergencies and special events. Positions are available in the newly formed bike patrol as well as for nightly community patrols. For more information, call Lt. Ken Novak at 431-6868.

Visit other senior citizens. Volunteers age 55 and over needed for JASA's Friendly Visitors Program; if you are interested in sharing time with a senior citizen in his or her home, please call Jolene Boden at 432-0570 for more information.

Loving foster homes needed St. Christopher-Ottilie, one of New York City's largest foster care agencies, is searching for families who can provide loving, stable environments for children. For information about how to become a foster parent, call 764-4499.

Build wheelchair ramps. Laborers are needed by Citizens United to Remove Barriers (CURB) to help construct ramps for the disabled. Call 889-6579 for additional information.

Volunteer at L.I. Crisis Center. The Long Island Crisis Center, which provides a range of services to people in need including a 24/7 hotline service to youth and their families, has many positions available, including becoming a crisis intervention counselor. No experience necessary - extensive training provided. Call 826-0244 for an interview.

Help stop hunger, waste. Island Harvest, Long Island's Food Rescue Organization, invites you to volunteer. Island Harvest's mission is to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. To achieve this mission,. dedicated volunteers pick up food from commercial food donors in their community and deliver to nearby local nonprofit agencies.
