The Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 26 at Sewanhaka High School at 8 p.m.
Valley Stream District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 19 at the James A. Dever School at 8 p.m.
Elmont Library Board
The Board of Trustees will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, May 28. An executive session begins at 7 p.m., followed by the public meeting at 8 p.m.
Franklin Square Library Board
The Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. A library board election will be held the next day.
Franklin Square Chamber
The Chamber of Commerce will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at Filomena’s.
Retirees meeting
The Franklin Square Jewish Center Retirees Group will meet on Tuesday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Piano Teachers
On Wednesday, May 20 at 10 a.m., the Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island will hold their next meeting. Naomi Lehman will be the guest speaker with a program about “the music between the notes.”
Beer Tasting
The Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square will hold its inaugural Beer Tasting Festival in the Biergarten on Saturday, May 30. Visitors can choose from two sessions: an afternoon, session from 12:30 to 4 p.m. (doors open at 12 noon) or an evening session, 6 to 9:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.). The Kappelle Fellas will be providing entertainment. Tickets are available exclusively through www.ParkRestauarnt.com and are $45 per person in advance or $55 at the door. There is also a $10 designated driver ticket for both sessions which allows full access to the event, but no sampling. 
Run For The Police
Residents are invited to register for the annual Long Island Police Appreciation Run, taking place in Eisenhower Park on Thursday, June 11. The entry fee for the Run is $20 for those who enter in advance and $25 for those who enter on the day of the run. Gun Buy Back
Nassau County’s gun buy back program will take place on Saturday May 16 in Freeport. Residents who turn in a gun at the designated location will receive $200. The drop-off point is Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ located at 312 Grand Ave in Freeport from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m

Chair exercise
The next class will be held on Friday, May15 at 10 a.m. with instructor Millie Danko.
Chair Yoga
On Monday, May 18 at 1 p.m. join the library and its patrons for yoga. This is a class suitable for all levels and will help participants learn how to listen to their bodies with gentle stretching and breathing.
Book Discussion
On Monday, May18 at 2 p.m. Librarian, Laurie O’Toole will present a book discussion of “Infidel” by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Coffee and cookies will be served.
Tuesday feature film
On Tuesday, May 19 “Cassandra’s Dreams.” In London, two brothers from a dysfunctional family buy a sailboat named Cassandra. Falling into desperate financial straits, they start a life of criminal activity. Mischief, mayhem and murder ensue. The film is rated PG-13.
On Tuesday, May 26, the film will be Chicago.
Transit seminar
On Thursday, May 14 at 12 p.m. learn how to save money on gas and help the environment. A representative from Transit Solutions, an MTA program, will be presenting an overview of the transit options available to Elmont residents and surrounding areas. Come learn how to use the bus or train to get places such as the beach, the mall, or the doctor. Free maps will and schedules will be provided, as well as individualized help for your specific needs.
Computer Fifth Grade
A computer workshop for adults will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. This workshop covers using the Windows Desktop to enhance the user's work environment. Included are saving files to the desktop, moving to and from My Documents and the Recycle Bin, creating folders on the desktop and display properties.
Italian Genealogy
On Friday, May 22 at 12:30 p.m. local historians should join Anthony DiBartolo for a lesson in tracing genealogy from the United States to the Italian countryside. Program runs until 2 p.m.
Teen knitting group
Sunday, May 17 at 4 p.m., teens are welcome to come together at the library for the teen knitting group to make some cool crafts.
SAT prep
On Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m., high school students and their parents are welcome at the library for an SAT prep class.
Chi Gong
The next class will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 10 a.m. with instructor Cathy Anastasio.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner’s class — you must have experience in playing the game.

Quilters Group
On Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m., the library quilters group will hold its twice-monthly meeting.
Singing in Franklin Square
On Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m., Natalya Simone, the Song Bird, will be performing. She will be sing songs from several different musical genres. Ms. Simone is a classical vocalist who specializes in classical, spiritual, broadway, gospel and jazz songs. Program starts promptly at 2:00pm.
Defensive Driving
On Tuesday May 19 and Wednesday, May 20, the AARP will hold its defensive driving course for seniors at the Franklin Square library. The fee for AARP members is $12, non-members pay $14. Every session is a full session.
Craft-a-giraffe
On Tuesday, May 19, the library will host a craft day for elementary students from grades 3 to 6.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program
This program aims to help individuals and families recover from the ravages of substance abuse Group and individual therapy sessions, adult and adolescent treatment are available at Peninsula’s Counseling’s Valley Stream location, 70 W. Project Cares
This social day program is for men and women 60 and over who are considered frail due to physical or mental difficulties. The group meets Monday through Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church School Building, Broadway, Hewlett. For information call (516) 374-9278.
Blood Drive
Alden Terrace PTA is hosting a Blood Drive on Friday, May 29th from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Alden Terrace school gymnasium.  The school is located at 1835 N.
