New soccer club
New soccer clubThe new Long Beach-based Seaside Soccer Club is holding pre-travel team registration for its boys born between Aug. 1, 2001 and July 31, 2002. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons. Registration deadline is Feb. 27. Deadline for spring intermurials for 6- and 7-year old boys and girls is April 10. JASA ribbon cutting
The JASA Long Beach Senior Center, at 570 West Walnut Street, will have a ribbon cutting ceremony to acknowledge receiving a new “Hot Shot” Meals on Wheels vehicle that was purchased on a contract with the Nassau County Department of Senior citizens Affairs. This vehicle will be used to ensure food safety to all of the homebound senior recipients. The ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. on March 3. On Broadway — A Musical Review!
The Island Park Theatre Group, in concert with The Island Park Schools Recreation Department, will proudly present "On Broadway — A Musical Revue!" featuring local talent of all ages from all communities. Come and experience Broadway-style singing and dancing at a fraction of the cost — and ten times the fun! Performances will be Sunday, Mar. 14, 3 p.m. ($10 discount tickets for seniors.) Fri., Mar. 19 and Sat., Mar. 20, 8 p.m.; and an encore matinee on Sun., Mar. 21, 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Orens School Middle School, 150 Trafalgar Blvd., Island Park. Museum trip
The Avanti Society is hosting a trip to the Holocaust Museum in Glen Cove on June 13. The fee for the bus, tour and lunch is $35. For information and seats call 889-5086.

Torah classes
Temple Beth-El, at 570 W. Walnut St. in Long Beach, is offering free Torah classes on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the smorgasbord room. For information call 432-1678.

Reverse mortgage seminar
Mark Rizza will first talk about how to qualify for a regular mortgage. Then he will focus on the pros and cons of a reverse mortgage and how one can qualify for a reverse mortgage on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.

Expressionism and African art
This presentation explores the role of the African American artist in the historic and contemporary world of abstract painting at 2 p.m. on Feb. 19. The works of the abstractionists Norman Lewis and Ed Clark will be included, as well as other emerging artists. Our lecturer, Jo-Ann Graham earned a Ph.D. from New York University. This program is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities’ Speakers in the Humanities program.

Inspirational Gospel music
The Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church Music Department presents their annual Black History Month concert under the direction of Minister of Music Jamel at 3 p.m. Feb. 21. Pastor Isaac Melton will present the choirs consisting of the Male Chorus, the Youth Choir, the Sanctuary Choir and J.J. Evans Mass Choir along with Jamel on the piano and Laron West on the drums. Adam Green will perform on bass guitar.

Breast cancer research fundraiser
Ooh La La, a women's boutique on East Park Avenue, will hold a fundraiser for breast cancer research at the Tiki Bar, at 832 W. Beech St. from 8 p.m. to 12a.m on Feb. 27. Baked goods, raffles and drink specials will be offered. All tips will also be donated. 

Learn about Lincoln
Bud Livingston, past president of the Civil War Round Table of New York, will lecture on little-known facts about Abraham Lincoln at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23. Learn about his trip to New Orleans and his firsthand experience with slavery, his broken engagement, his error in the Gettysburg Address, his alleged love affair with Ann Rutledge, his duel, his patent (the only President to hold one), and more. 

Looking for love
We all want love: romantic love, to be loved, someone to love. Can love be found? Created? Instead of looking in all the wrong places, come to this interactive, multimedia workshop, with Interfaith Ministers Debbie Nardozzi and Dave Feldman at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.

Tony DiBetta live
Tony DiBetta is a singer who performs songs from the 1940s to the ‘80s. Tony will perform songs by Neil Diamond, Elvis, The Temptations, B.J.Thomas, Perry Como and Bobby Darin at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28. This program is presented by The Avanti Society.

Chi Gong: Chinese healing
Marianna Farina, Tai Chi/dance instructor, will lead you on a journey to peace and calmness. Chi Gong helps restore energy flow, enhances the immune system and promotes relaxation. Dress comfortably for these classes to start at 1:30 p.m. on March 2, 9, 16 and 23.

Quilts seminar
Join seniors in a series of workshops on the amazing quilts crafted by descendants of slaves in Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Students will make their own quilts out of paper and a quilt square out of fabrics. Gee’s Bend Quilts will be taught by Elizabeth Connolly on Thursdays in February from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m.

Scrabble day
Seniors are invited to join the fun on Scrabble Day at 10 a.m. on Feb. 26. Call Linda at 431-3510 to register and be matched with players of your skill level.

Line dancing
Exercise your mind and your body by attending Line Dancing With Lori led by instructor, Lori Shapiro. Some line dance experience is suggested for this program. Classes are scheduled for Mondays in February at 9 a.m.

Seated tai chi
Instructor Judith Weitz invites Long Beach seniors to join her program where they will learn to tone and stretch all their muscles without putting stress on their knees, feet, thighs or back. Seated Tai Chi is scheduled on Thursdays starting at
11 a.m.

Music that makes you move
Movement to music is an enjoyable way to exercise and feel better. This action-oriented program, led by instructor Lisa Wisel, is suitable for all seniors. Class sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays at 1 p.m.

Winter exercise classes
The Rec is offering two courses for adults this winter: a yoga/pilates class and a boot camp, which will be held in the teen center (above the Ice Arena) on weekday evenings and weekend mornings. The registration fee for each class is $50 for Long Beach residents and $100 for non-residents.
