Elmont Board of Education
An extra Board of Education meeting will be held Thursday, April 2 at the PPS Office, 1735 Hempstead Tpke at 6 p.m.
The board's next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at Clara H. Carlson School at 6:30 p.m. This will be the BOCES budget vote meeting.
Sewanhaka Central High School
The Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at Sewanhaka High School at 8 p.m.
Valley Stream District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 21 at the James A. Dever School at 8 p.m.
Elmont Library Board
The Board of Trustees will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, April 23. An executive session begins at 7 p.m., followed by the public meeting at 8 p.m.
Franklin Square Library Board
The Board of Trustees will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
Elmont Chamber of Commerce
The chamber will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 22. The location and time has not been announced.
Franklin Square Chamber
The Chamber of Commerce will hold its next meeting on Thursday, April 16 at Carmela's Pizzeria & Restaurant at 6 p.m.
Retirees meeting
The Franklin Square Jewish Center Retirees Group will meet on Tuesday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m.
Nassau County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature will meet on Thursday, April 2 at 10 a.m., with committees meeting at 2 p.m. at 1550 Franklin Ave., in Mineola in the legislative chambers. The public is welcome to attend. For further information, call (516) 571-6285.

Adult education
Rabbi Kehati's Adult Education Classes at the Temple B'Nai Israel of Elmont will be held until Monday, May 11. Classes will start at 7:30 p.m. The topic of discussion is The Definition of Judaism According to the Prophets and Rabbinical Literature. This class is free of charge.
Spring tea and boutique
United Methodist Women will hold a spring tea and boutique on Saturday, April 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 619 Fenworth Blvd. in Franklin Square. Admission is free to the boutique. The tea costs $12 and reservations are required. Call Linda at (516) 481-1797.
Passover Seder
The Temple B'Nai Israel of Elmont will host its Second Night Passover Seder on Thursday, April 9 at 6:15 p.m. A kosher passover dinner will be served. $33 per person if reservations are made on or before Monday, March 30. After that date, a 10 percent charge will be added. For reservations, send a check with your name and the number of people to the temple, attention Janet Maruna.
Piano Teachers
On Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m., the Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island will hold their next meeting. It will feature Andrew Armstrong and a discussion on Mendelssohn and Bach.
Fundraiser

Computer Third Grade
A computer workshop for adults will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m. This hands-on workshop covers multitasking, working with graphics and using Windows drawing and painting tools. Also being covered will be using copy and paste within a document, to another document in the same and another application.
Book Discussion
Librarian Anthony Grimaldi will lead a discussion of "Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society," by Mary Ann Shaffe on Monday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.
Tuesday feature film
"Moliere" will be shown on April 7 at 2 p.m. The French playwright Moliere weaves his mischief and his art at the French court in 1968. The movie is rated R.
Celtic Journey
Saturday, April 4 at 2p.m. Kokila explores music in the Celtic Tradition. Solo Piano music composed in the Celtic style is played alongside some traditional melodies and also some music by modern women composers, such as Loreena McKinnett.
Sentimental Journey Singers
On Sunday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. join the singers for "Four Seniors, For Seniors," a musical journey down Memory Lane as the group sings 4-part harmony, and engages the audience with musical comedy.
Poetry Workshop
Wednesday, April 2 from 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Published poet Dr. Lynda Opyr is the author of five collections of poetry that have been published in numerous journals and magazines. Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to write poetry and share what they've written.
Craft Time
On Friday, April 3 at 12:30 p.m., residents should bring a straw hat or anything at all the group will supply all you need to decorate your hat.

The next class will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 10 a.m. with instructor Cathy Anastasio.
Tax help for seniors
Free tax help will be offered by the Town of Hempstead every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. A tax preparation program offered by Hofstra University will be held every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class - you must have experience in playing the game.
Family Fun
Actor, singer and storyteller Lou DelBianco will regale families with stories from his journeys around the world. Tickets will be given out starting April 2. The event takes place Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m.

A movie will be shown every Thursday at 2 p.m. The next movie is: "Brideshead Revisited" April 2.
Tax class for seniors
The AARP/IRS sponsored tax assistance program at the library will be held every Monday from noon to 4 p.m. until April 13. Volunteers will assist low-income senior citizens in preparing simple tax returns. Seniors with incomes below $70,000 will be advised on any state property tax exemptions, which may apply. Appointments are necessary.
Story craft
A Storycraft program for children ages 3 to 5 will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m.
Mezzo Siciliano-Mezzo Napolitano
Join Anthony Di Bartolo at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 for a presentation on his journey of discovery. Mr Di Bartolo spent two months in the towns of his ancestors, Palermo, San Marco dei Cavoti and Viggiano. His stated goal was to locate relatives, perform research, and obtain the documents necessary for dual citizenship. His presentation includes charts with various genealogical documents, family photographs and selected pictures from his trip.
Duck Magnet
On Monday, April 6 at 4 p.m. Kindergartners through second-graders can make a magnet for your refrigerator. Each class is limited to 25 children. There is a $1 fee for materials.
Mystical Magical Eggs
On Tuesday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m., children ages 3 to 5 will take two sessions to make these big, special eggs. Jina Papadoniou will be leading the class and knows just the right magic to create the crafts kids will love.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program
This program aims to help individuals and families recover from the ravages of substance abuse Group and individual therapy sessions, adult and adolescent treatment are available at Peninsula's Counseling's Valley Stream location, 70 W. Project Cares
This social day program is for men and women 60 and over who are considered frail due to physical or mental difficulties. The group meets Monday through Thursday at St. Joseph's Church School Building, Broadway, Hewlett. For information call (516) 374-9278.
Ask a nutritionist
Wednesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. Nutritionist Alexandra Sasha Averko, Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator, will hold an open forum. The topic will be "To Buy Organic or Not". We will evaluate the current evidence on this topic and learn which foods have the highest and lowest pesticide residue.
