Officer Kevin O'Toole arrested Audrey Moore, 33, of 276 Essex St. in Brooklyn, and Dwaine Noel, 32, of 536 Bergen St. in Brooklyn, after they purchased the equipment allegedly using stolen credit cards.
The officer was having his patrol car serviced at Pep Boys, at 850 Sunrise Highway, where he noticed the man acting strangely as they purchased the electronics. "They were a little nervous, acting suspicious," said Sgt. Roy Gorddard.
O'Toole looked on as the man and woman loaded their car with the equipment. The man looking jittery, Gorddard said, and O'Toole observed him speaking on two cell phones at once. The officer also saw credit cards in the car. "It just piqued his suspicion," said Gorddard.
O'Toole followed the couple into Freeport, where he pulled them over. The woman handed over her driver's license, one of several from Alabama, New York and North Carolina that Gorddard said were bogus. Moore and Noel were arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument and second-degree forgery. They were arraigned on Jan. 6 in First District Court in Hempstead.
Gorddard commended O'Toole's work. "He was very observant," the sergeant said.
