This Saturday, the Knights of Columbus will host its annual St. Patrick's Day Party, a regular fund-raising event for the organization's council that brings much merriment to its participants, as evidenced by how quickly the event sold out this year.
"I don't have to worry about selling out, because people start calling about the party in February for tickets, right after we start advertising for it," said Dennis McGlynn, the chairman of the party for the past two years. "Everyone seems to like it."
The party will feature, among other activities, performers who do Irish jigs and other dances, and guests who will take to the dance floor to do their best line dancing to "When Irish Eyes are Smiling," "Danny Boy" and a variety of St. Patrick's Day favorites. When the DJ takes a rest, a bagpiper and drummers will add more musical punch to the party.
"Of course, there will be soda bread, corned beef and cabbage and all the trimmings," said McGlynn, a Knight since 1970 and the Oceanside Fire District's commissioner and chairman of the board.
McGlynn and Dennis Murphy, vice chairman of the St. Patrick's Day Party, also organize a raffle with donated items, to finance the council's various activities.
"Everyone who comes has a good time," McGlynn said, "and they all rave about it. It's a very good social event for the council."
