Long Beach officials reported late Friday the city's first confirmed case of the Coronavirus.
Ryan McTiernan, director of the city's Department of Community Development, said in a letter to residents that the city "at this time has one case of Covid-19."
In a telephone interview Friday night, McTiernan said he had no other information about the case. He referred a reporter to the New York State Department of Health.
State health officials did not immediately return phone calls.
McTiernan said, "In an abundance of caution, and in the interest of protecting our vulnerable youth and senior population, the City of Long Beach has taken the following actions."
Public attendance at the City Council meeting on Tuesday is suspended. Residents are invited to livestream the meeting. No good and welfare will take place at the end of the meeting.
The recreation center is closed until further notice. The MLK Center is also closed. All recreation, youth and senior programs are postponed until further notice.
