Long Islanders have been enduring a long, cold, and snowy winter. On Feb.2, Groundhog Day, local groundhogs Malverne Mel and Holtsville Hal both predicted the early arrival of spring. Kindergartners in ToniAnn Hodge’s class at Francis X. Hegarty School are tracking those predictions as they work on a project to count down the days until spring. Most of the class is hoping the groundhogs’ prediction will be accurate.
