Country Day kids bake for a cause

Kindergartners at the school, which accepts children as young as toddlers, bake during class and then sell the goodies to other children at the school. Proceeds from the bake sale benefit the fund drive.
In the past, contributors chose a family to sponsor, but now the monies are collected and evenly distributed among recipients.
Kindergarten teacher Robyn Dromm said the bake sale teaches the youngsters many lessons. "They learn a cooking lesson. They learn how to share," as well as good manners, Dromm said. "Most of all, they know they're raising money for a needy family during the holidays."
Director Marcine West echoed Dromm, saying, "They know the money is going to help those who have less than they do."
The bake sale's long, knee-high table was chock full with a variety of cookies, cupcakes and brownies, all priced at 25 cents each. The kindergartners took turns running the booth.
Kindergartner Christian Bennett said his two favorite parts of the bake sale were helping and eating.
Kindergartner Gabriella Ullo said, "First we have to wait our turn. So that's why we have to be patient."
Also participating in the sale were Carol Gabrielle's class and assistant Jessica Turzilli.
Last year, the bake sale brought in a donation of close to $200, sweet rewards for lessons learned and a job well done.
