Halstrom went 4-0 in the tournament and defeated Aylin Mehter of Massapequa in the final in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5. "I was hoping to finish in the top three and make states," said Halstrom, a four-time participant in the county event. "I've played Aylin as much as I've played anyone over the last three or four years. We've gone three sets a lot. It's a great feeling to win." Halstrom, Mehter and Jericho's Shelby Bates advanced to the state tournament, which takes place Nov. 2-5 in Syracuse.
