For those being forced out of their homes overnight, more shelters have been added to the Nassau County list of places people can go to seek refuge from the hurricane, that is whipping the South Shore.At least one shelter is full. The list also includes and specifies which shelters take pets.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own crates, pictures of their pets and proof of vaccaines.The locations are being staffed by Noah's Wish Animal Health Services, North Shore Animal League, CERT, RACES, and county employees.
All non-life threatening emergencies should be directed to the County’s special Non-Emergency Hotline at 1-888-684-4274. Residents should only contact 911 if there is a life-threatening emergency.
