In Baldwin Park, in the parking lot nearest the tennis courts on Aug. 5, one could see a train of cars lined up, waiting to receive boxes containing personal protective equipment.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, of Baldwin, in partnership with the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency and an investment from the Town of Hempstead, provided nearly 5,000 small businesses and nonprofit organizations with free personal protective equipment, critical to reopening and operating safely during the coronavirus pandemic, as part of the ongoing initiative.

The PPE program is intended for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employees, MWBE-owned businesses and businesses in hard hit and economically distressed neighborhoods. MWBE-owned businesses are certified as Minority or Women-Owned Business Enterprises in Nassau County.

Other criteria include businesses being open for at least one year and having gross revenue of less than $3 million. Kits are fulfilled on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, visit www.boostnassau.net.

Curran was joined by Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and Nassau County Industrial Development Agency Chairman Rich Kessel to hand out a second round of free PPE kits to local small business owners. Two thousand kits were distributed about two weeks ago.
